Need to try and trade him.

Look around and see which core-type pieces are available. Eichel? Jones? Someone else?

The market will be there for a young star RWer.

Running the same core next year will be a complete disgrace and he's the weak point. His playoff performances are shameful for a 5M player let alone someone making 11M.

MArner might get more in trade than some think. Frontloaded deal. Marners cap hit is $11 but he's owed $8 per. Teams like Buffalo, Columbus and even Calgary would love that.
Then we need to phone each of those teams tomorrow morning.
I f***en hate seeing that asshole in a leafs jersey. Mercenary.

Mitch pretty much booked his ticket out of here the second he got that contract. Super talented dude but also very flawed when it matters most. He's basically Taylor Hall but he doesn't know it yet. He thinks he wants to be the man, but honestly, he really doesn't want it nor does he have what it takes.

Laine’s garbage, and even the good version of him would piss off Leafs Nation more than Marner ever has

So weird how 1 rookie season has given the Laine name prestige it hasn’t deserved since
I wasn’t thinking his value was super high and figured he’s more of a reclamation project, I think if he ever figures it all out he’s a big body with game breaking skills you cannot teach.

Marner just can't handle the pressure of playing in Toronto. He was regularly screwing up basic plays and blowing chance after chance in prime scoring areas. He sabotaged himself today.

It sucks cuz we all know that if we trade Marner he'll prob win 3 cups and 2 Conn Smyths on some other team.
In the PWHPA.... or whatever it’s called.

I'd take him personally, but I'm not paying a premium like Rielly and Marner. Take Rielly out and I think you have a starting point.

He'd be a great PP addition in the far side to Matthews so you can't cheat. Would be a good fit ES with Tavares, but he certainly has his warts.

If he's on this team next year he can sweep the major awards and I won't care. He needs to produce in the playoffs and lead us but this is all fantasy cuz Dubas can't be crazy enough to bring him back

Gonna say it again - if the health issues with jack are good to go - the trade needs to be made.

It solves two problems - Marner is off the team and Matthews now has a rival who wants to steal his spotlight on his own turf, better step up kid..

I think you’re adding to marner if the return is both Laine and Jones. Maybe it’s not rielly, but it’s something significant

Agree with this take. Eichel would be competing with Matthews and they'd be pushing each other.

We wouldn't have any more b.s best buds who demanded the coach use them together or else.

Personally, I think if we trade Marner, Matthews is probably out the door when his contract expires. He looks halfway there already.

...or Matthews and Eichels just renew their friendshup and do the same shit.

Winning is a lot more fun than losing. Im sure he'd rather win than play with his friends

Jones is a UFA after the season and has said he wants to go to market. Laine's stock is dropping hard and his QO is $7.5M for a guy who was outperformed by Spezza this year.

Simple don't give the A to either next year. Give it to Nylander and Rielly/Muzzin. Keep them on separate l8ens and play same time but have them share a PP. Have them both be leaders at first and see who is willing to sacrifice and do what's needed to win in the playoffs

Which ever player dominates more in the playoffs gets the A if we go deep and if we lose in the 1st again strip the C from JT and put it on whoever dominates more.

I think he wants it just lacks that Kane level clutch. Styles himself after Kane, compared to Kane, but he isn't a Kane.

* We won't know if Jack's neck is fully healed until early winter - when he's got a bunch of games under his belt.
* Buffalo won't make that trade unless Eichel is damaged goods.
* Jack is a center - like Matthews. Who moves to the wing?

I don't think Eichel is the answer. I also don't think it happens.
