I don't know what the solution is but I have a hard time believing the solution is trading a top 5 scorer that seems like that would be stupid

Last 18 playoff games: 0 goals
Last 12 playoff games: 8 assists
Last 6 playoff penalties: 5 delay of game penalties (puck flips over glass), 1 tripping
Cap-hit: $10.893 million

That puck flip over-the-glass in game 6 that led to the 2-0 goal was a complete debacle...a game after which he said they didn't start on time...well, that penalty was in the 3rd period...so, is he lying, or he just can't hack the NHL playoffs? Would the Leafs have won game six 2-1 without Marner's delay of game penalty? Who knows, but that brain cramp turned costly.

It's really bad karma when he took his hometown team to the woodshed in contract negotiations, and is a complete no show in the playoffs. Who needs his regular season points when he can't deliver in the playoffs? The Leafs don't need regular season Marner to make the playoffs.

Marner made an interesting comment in his post game presser.

He said something about not scoring first... and it seemed like that meant so much. So the fragile mentality of this group goes way beyond anything we could think of imo.

I mean, you're down 1 goal and you shut'er down? In general, but especially in this series it was very evident whoever scored first was in control... narrative could have changed with OT goals for the Leafs but as always they never came through.

This group will never win with that kind if mindset... its almost as if as soon as the Habs scored they pretty much knew they were not going to win? Talk about a loser mentality, holy shit. Marner said it, but it was pretty clear he was not the only one thinking like that.
Pretty sure the initial lead was lost in all but 2 of the games. I wouldn't say the first goal was THAT important, especially with us pissing ourselves late in 3 of the losses.

Not sure about that. Other GMs see a multi year 90+ point guy. They have a ton of value and are almost never traded.

He would return value.
Again what are people here looking for/expecting.
If it’s Draisaitl or bust, yeah you’ll be disappointed.

But for 11 mil, what if you got a Nylander comparable player for 6 mil (Filip Forsberg type example) and a defense like Muzzin, Ekholm type. This is of course an example but with Marner’s salary you can certainly turn 11 million into 2 or 3 quality players.

If we Get eichel for this guy it's going to be as big of a fleece as the Kessel deal was for us

Eichel is going to save this franchise next year.

What's the recovery time on his neck surgery? I doubt he plays next season considering the fact that he won't get that surgery until the trade goes through.

Matthews was pathetic but Marner was putrid.
How do you get outplayed by Caulfield (great player but no experience), Kotka, and honestly Gallagher? What can you do with a player like this? He was so completely ineffective.

Eichel has serious injury concerns and is an even worse personality than our guys.
Which is why I say "can"

He can be better than Mitch if he recovers and the change of scenery motivates him.

What do you think they need to win a Marner trade?

If he's back for Game 1 of the playoffs I'll be cool

Get matthews to shake free the bad habits from playing with Marner

LTIR Eichel aka Kucherov and that let's us give like 10M to any player or 2 players for a 1 year deal

For years we hoped for a homegrown Toronto superstar, we finally get one and this is how he does us. He's become public enemy number one in Toronto and it's entirely his own fault.

But I thought his video after he signed his overpaid contract melted your heart? :sarcasm:

Pretty sure the only game where the team that scored the first goal didn't win was Game 2. And that game was tied after the 1st.

If Marner doesn't live in the gym this off season I will lose a lot of respect for him. Right now I'm more depressed roasting him. If this doesn't motivate him to fix his fitness issues, nothing will.

There's a reason guys like Marchand Bergeron barkov etc can "do it all". Starts with gym ends with rat. Marner thinks he can do the bare minimum and get by. That's not how it works buddy .

I would want a top 10 pick + NHL ready top 6/top 4 prospect + middle six NHL player

So something like. LAK 1st + Turcotte + Dustin Brown/Matt Roy/Sean Walker

This guy is the worst f***ing thing that happened to the leafs in the last ten years and f*** anyone who questions it.

LOL, creative. Maybe Colorado or Tampa can pull it off.

Eichel sure saved Buffalo

this thread is a joke let’s trade a great player because our GM can not assemble a team.

Marner was my guy I absolutely adored him. But he choked and he choked in spectacular fashion. He gave up in the team. Didn't up his effort.

Dubas can be fired but Marner has to be moved. It's just going to be toxic with how much fans are frustrated with his past 20 playoff games

Are there still some people satisfied with his playoff performance?

Don't worry, there will be people dishing out his regular season numbers and tell you that he's comparable or better than Patrick Kane...Marner is better than Aho, better than Kucherov, better than Rantanen, better than Point...Marner is the best!!! :sarcasm:

Yeah. Having a top 5 league scorer is the WORST thing to happen to the leafs in the last ten years. No doubt about that.

I think they want to trade the guy who choked for the third straight playoffs. If he was playing great there wouldn't have been an issue and we'd be talking about the Jets series.

On the plus side, I thought your boy Rielly had a great series.
