I think Laine would be a bad pickup for the Leafs, would be like adding another Marner but much much worse. Laine needs to find his groove and prove he can still be a goal scorer, but he looks like a flash-in-pan player. I think the Leafs would be better off trying to pick at the corpse of the Penguins and getting Guentzel or Rust, or maybe doing a swap with Vancouver for someone like Boeser. Those options would all be cheaper and likely put up more points and have some postseason finishing ability.
You’re not going to get value for junior mint everybody in the League sees same thing we do

I mean, most GMs are dumb and will bet on a revival or just look at stats. I've seen so many lopsided trades and trade deadline overpayments in the past 25 years that I can say with confidence that at least 80% of the league GMs would look at Marner as their new franchise superstar.

Marner wanted big bucks but hasn’t backed it up when it matters. I wanted him traded before his terrible penalty. And that just solidified it.

and no, I’m not a Marner hater. He was my favorite player at one point. But since contract stuff and playoff disappointments, changes are needed. Changed goalies, added experience, grit and still the same.

He is a point getter. Period. He is not a player that gets you wins when it matters.

He has been my most disliked player on this roster for three seasons now... I don't like how he plays... I know he is super skilled and will be very successful if he goes somewhere, but I think the team would be better (deeper) without him.

For now, since he is on the roster, just need him to dumb it down a bit. I will say, he has been miles better than Matthews in this series (offensively).

This guy is the biggest choker and waste of 11m in cap space I’ve ever seen.

Absolute no show. If we lose this series, he needs to go.

Both of them have been no shows in the last few games...they both have 4 points in 6 games, only that Matthews has 1 goal and Marner has none.

From a points perspective, yes they are similar. But Marner has been visible on offence, has had some good chances and set up some nice plays. No killer instinct so no result... but I mean, what does Matthews even do for the 40 secons he is out there? Had 2 chances to score today that I can recall and neither were close to going in.

Plus Marner kills penalties, and is very good at that. All I am saying is, despite his disappointing performance he has still brought elements that help the team... more than Matthews.

The over the glass penalty today was one for the ages putting us down two men.
He wasn't even pressured on the puck. Just decided to go hail mary on the puck.

I mean Matthews set him up point blank in OT and drove plays everytime he was on the ice. Still not sure why Mitch was scared to dig for that loose puck on Prices pad, would've been great to see him go in hard.

Kill penalties like that puck flip that led to Montreal's 2-0 goal tonight? The Leafs don't need Marner to kill penalties...and he shouldn't get paid almost $11 million to kill penalties and not show up on the scoresheet...Matthews plays the centre position, which is a much harder position to play. Marner hasn't scored a goal in 17 playoff games now...only has 8 assists in the last 11 playoff games...what offense is he bringing?

Hockey is such a cruel game.

Your star players can do almost everything (PK, 5v5, PP, play through clear penalties) but score.

A team can come unprepared, be down 2 goals, then show urgency for 3 or 4 mins and it's a tie game.

Just ridiculous amount of emotional levels.

Big Marner fan, just don't like his post game quotes. For 11 mill you think he'd have atleast 3 or 4.

He heard footsteps and decided to get crazy. Just playing absolutely scared out there.

Flipping the puck, given where he was and the time he had, proves he doesn't bring anything worthwhile. Go ahead, watch the replay again.

That's not the kind of error that a professional should make, especially one making 11 million. And for what? So that Hyman can flub it at Price?

And if Eichel's neck doesn't get better?

Shows that he and many others were not ready to play. They think it's preseason.

When are these clowns ever ready to play? Last two games of the season. Let’s mail it in cause we need load management. Captain gets hurt. They’re emotionally dazed. Up big in a series? Let’s just take the victory lap. Just came back from being down big and have all the momentum? Let’s cough up the puck and the game. Playing in front of fans for the first time? Let’s let Montreal run around for 15 minutes. Enough of this garbage.

Really feels like it's just the Leafs fandom that's cruel.
