Point signed a 3 year @ $6.75 mil deal and Barzal signed a 3 year @ $7.0 mil AFTER Marner signed his deal.

Makes you almost think sometimes that the teams GM is actually the one in charge of the negotiations. :wg:
Which is why GMs just make players sign deals at any random number.

Fact is, Marner is a different player, with a different personality, in a different market/situation.

Why don't you dig up some of those Marner bridge rumours? I'm sure they'll all reference that 6M number multiple times

Many sources had Marner asking for 9 million on a bridge:

Mitch Marner's camp reportedly asked for richest bridge deal in NHL history

Toronto Maple Leafs Rumour: Marner Turns Down HUGE Offer

Bob McKenzie breaks down a potential Marner bridge deal

marner 9 x 3 might be worse than 10.893 x 6.

And on the other end of the spectrum...
Oh please Mitch choose us:

As outrageous as that number may sound, Toronto is still eager to make it happen. Mirtle added that Toronto has been “aggressive in trying to get this done” and are offering in the range of “just under $9-million to roughly $11-million per season, depending on the term.”

The public arrogance his camp showed is partially why we're here today.
Furthermore who cares what he asks for? Dubas is the type of guy who’s a SIMP for pretty girls. Set your parameters with a bit of emergency wiggle room and if the negotiation doesn’t work out take the picks. Like Boston did with Kessel.

the only player you bend over for is Matthews and he’s your franchise player and top 3 in the league

I still can't believe Dubas let himself get punked so bad by the big 3

Nylander pulled one of the biggest bitch moves ever and held out for 1/3 of the year, serving as a constant distraction while his team was looking to contend. He signed at the very last moment for a deal he wasn't worth at the time and completely wasted a whole year of the deal with how horrible he was in 2019

Matthews signed for 11.634 x 5 while having no major awards, not a single playoff series and having never been top 10 in points or ppg in the league. He had the audacity to claim he gave a discount and took less term to keep the AAV down. Matthews wasn't worth 11.634 x 8 when he signed (still remains to be seen if he is as he needs to be a top 5 player yearly to justify that AAV).

Marner in any other market would have received boos in his first few games back. This dude was bending over his hometown team for a ridiculous and unprecedented type of deal for a player of his caliber. He was having Dreger serve as his media piece and had threats of "Offersheet tour" loom large in the 2019 off-season. He was looking to sign a bridge at what he was worth on a 8 year deal (9ish million). His attitude and selfishness matched Matthew's and exceeded even Nylanders.

Dubas should have dealt Nylander in the off-season the second he held out. Nylander was being rumored to bring back Pesce+, Pietrangelo (who had 2 years term left) and had enough value to obtain a quality premium RHD.

If he decided to keep Nylander after the holdout fiasco he should've not signed Matthews to that gross deal and waited until the off-season. The offer should have been 11M x 8. No team was signing Matthews to a 5 year offersheet higher than 11.634. The fake rumor created by Sportsnet a month after Dubas signed that deal was such a pathetic tactic by Dubas to try and excuse how badly he got bent over

He 100% should've put marners name in mud when he was being selfish. Either tell him ti take the deal on the table or you start listening to offers. We take those 4 1sts or we get better value for a RFA 21 year old marner than we would now for a 24 year marner making nearly 11M who has failed miserably in the past two playoffs

Dubas operated as the players agent for these negotiations rather than a GM. His negotiations during the big 3 contracts killed the leafs rebuild

Self awareness? Thats rich. If marner. Played with kuz. The f***ing kid makes more than kuz. If he needs someone else then he isn't worth shit. Also have you forgotten matthews and jt? Its not like he plays with trash players. Good grief your arguments are horrific.
Where the heck was point tonight? Pointless with 2 shots and no goals. By your endless rants and analysis he has disappeared and is useless.
Good golly you Marner haters are eating a turd sandwich sooner than later.

He was scared to even have the puck on his stick. He got rid of it as fast as he could. Sometimes roofing it over the glass was his only option.
Point looked scared for another night. Less shots than Marner and less hits taken than Marner took on average.

I'm not even a marner hater and your love fest of sticking up for him the way you're doing is super cringe lol.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself! The leafs are never ever winning a cup with this core, it’s too top heavy in terms of cap dollars. By the time the cap starts trending upward again, matthews will be hitting free agency and taking his talents to the Vegas strip, and we will have to rebuild again, yay!

the guy has 23 points and 14 goals, man what are you even comparing here? this is the worst over reach ive ever f***ing seen maybe compare Marner to someone else Marner at this point cant even touch a skate lace to Point in the playoffs

If not, he'll demand a hefty raise, eating more of the cap...there won't be any cap savings.

I can’t wait 30 years down the road, when I’m half blind and hardly able to hear sitting in my rocking chair, as my great grand son tells me how horrible the leafs gm is, I’ll quip back “let me tell you a story about a fellow named Kyle dubas…”

And that ain't even taking into account his 33 point Conn Smythe worthy run last year.

Trying to shoot this guy down to prop up Marner is just sad.

Not against Montreal...the very team that shut down the 1st line scoring chances.

well marner had 4 points in 7 games Point has 3 points in 4 games... if thats your argument than stick with it lol, id say we cant have a good sample size because Marner vs Point in total playoff points is just ugly

Why not their entire playoff sample size?
I get some of the logic of opposition mattering. I don't think it explains the obvious gap in recent history with Marner underperforming, but if you want apples to apples, look beyond just this series (where Point has still outperformed Marner)
