He absolutely deserves all the criticism he’s getting. What I don’t understand is how his other gutless pretender linemate is getting a feed pass from most fans. Because his effort was maybe marginally better than Marner’s.

If anyone can stomach it, try rewatch my game 7. I did couple days ago. The sense of urgency these two cowards put into such a critical game is shocking, but most fans want to gone the other fairy a pass.

They deserve criticism all right. No second effort there at all. However Keefe overplaying that line to exhaustion by the third period was also a problem. Clearly that line was generating nothing so instead of giving Nylander more ice he plays Marner and Matthews into oblivion. Just dumb.

I think I'm one of Marner's biggest critics these days and I agree, saying he wrecked the team is just nuts.
Ok I would love to hear all the other teams who have won a cup during the cap era who had a top 5 paid nhl player playing wing, who went on to have 0 goals in last 18 playoff games. I would love to see all the teams who have over came such a bad contract

Marner drives me crazy when he tries to be too cute, and he definitely was horrible in the Playoffs, and he is overpaid IMO, but suggesting he wrecked the team, or we can’t win with him, seems more than a little over the top.
Alright let’s hear the examples of teams who have won a cup with a top 5 paid forward with 0 goals in his last 18 playoff games… I’m all ears

Yeah he disappeared after game #1 and looked like a punk allowing players to scruff him up and he just smirks and smiles. It was disgusting to watch. I can’t un- see that stuff. That kind of yellow is unacceptable. Plus he didn’t score being so scared. These guys are yellow

Chicago but maybe Kane signed the big deal after that last win. Not sure

If memory serves me right - both Kane/Toews got the same deal after their ELC...5 years at around $6 million AAV - about 10% of the cap at that time for each of them - not the 13% that Marner is getting today.

Then again - Chicago was very deep - had it not been for the cap they might've won 1 or 2 more Cups.

15.22 % at time of signing. The following year of last championship . Dubas should have bridged both instead of putting them right in to Ufa.

Now that a few months have gone by and Iv had time to cool off I still cannot forgive Mitch Marner for this play. There was no pressure on him and he had all day to dump the puck in. He can take his 11 million dollars and go play somewhere else. I don’t care if he goes on to win 10 Hart Trophies for his new team I hope we trade him.

Lol there’s your playoff marner people. That’s how much he cares.

How can anyone defend this selfish clown after watching garbage like that

Lol @ the overreactions to a pretty normal puck over glass penalty. Mistakes happen. It doesn't mean he's selfish, or doesn't care, or needs to be traded.

A normal puck over the glass penalty? He had no pressure on him and he had so much time. This play cost us the series. And I’m pretty sure this was his third puck over the glass penalty of the series.going down 2-0 on a boneheaded play like that from our 11 million dollar playoff no-show was a back breaker.

It's a 2 minute penalty. Mistakes happen. A 2 minute penalty did not cost us the series, and no, it was not his 3rd puck over glass penalty of the series - he only had 2 penalties in the entire series, and he actually drew 3.

It was the worst puck over the glass penalty iv ever seen at the worst possible time. It cost us a goal in a game we ended up losing in OT. You can thank your 11 million dollar man for another first round exit.

Dude wake up, they choked a 3-1 series lead. The D-core let them down. Sandin and Dermott with massive mistakes, Galchenyuk as well. They gifted the Habs. The team has no heart, no killer instinct, no idea how to close out a series @ the last 7 years. Bottom line.....Kyle Dubas is why the Leafs have lost in the playoffs the last 3 yrs.

Tavares has the worst contract on the team, by a mile. Not sure the Marner hate.
0 goals in 18 straight playoffs games.
There is the love video send to TO fans after he signed the contract.
The Dougie story about how his dad and him wanted out after getting demoted to the 4th line as a 2nd year player.
His dad basically the Lavar Ball in Hockey.
Stuff like that.
Getting hate by the fan base just shows the players they need to do more and they are not playing as well as they think they do.
If Marner scored a few goals this coming playoffs and helped the Leafs win a few rounds, people could care less about what he did in the previous 18 playoff games and all the other stuff.
Playoff results matter.

Marner cares. He's just currently not built for playoff hockey. Not as a number 1 option anyway. It's been 5 years and his best playoffs have been 1. Away from Matthews and 2. Away from the teams top line and defensive pairings. Dubas might be willing to but his career on Marner but Keefe should not (he will though). Keefe's trump card of "throw Matthews and Marner out there" hasn't worked in the playoffs for two consecutive years. He's probably hoping third time's a charm but I'm not so optimistic.

If we see Matthews and Marner together again and we once again fall short there should be a huge house cleaning of management including Dubas who I actually like. Dubas, Shanny, Keefe all should be gone. Marner, Matthews, JT, and Nylander are all good players, but Dubas overpaid them, Keefe is arrogant and doesn't know how to coach properly in the playoffs, and Shanny let it all happen under his tutelage.

I’m not letting those guys off the hook and DK t forget Thornton but I expect a little more out of Marner after the contract he signed. Atleast Matthews was good the last two playoffs, Marner has had 3 straight bad playoffs and IMO that’s unacceptable and a big reason we keep losing in the first round.

On one hand you're right, win and lose as a team, plenty of blame to go around and so on. On the other hand, the guys you mention ... mistakes happen but Marner being one of the highest paid players in the world gets held to a higher standard. The mistake he made was also so incredibly dumb as he was under no pressure, he had all the time in the world and still did the dumbest possible thing so it's understandable that that play stands out as the defining moment of the series and will be remembered for decades to come.

It was a 2 minute penalty, and as I said, he actually drew more penalties than he took. It was not the worst puck over glass penalty ever. It was not the worst timing ever - we actually came back to tie it. It did not single-handedly cost us the series like you want to claim. It was a simple mistake, that anybody can make. The fact that you go on to talk about his contract again shows what this is really about.
