When will people understand that there is a huge difference between getting it done and getting it close.
As of now, Marner and AM can't get it done. Keefe is no help with the way he deployed them. While at the same time, those two are not helping themselves either with their play. They have to understand that they are the leaders of the team and they must lead. If they ever want to win the Cup playing with each other, they need to sort it out and figure it out.

Totally agree. I can handle losing if you're battling to the bitter end, but these guys just.....fold in epic fashion. Muzzin has said a few times they're too easy to play against, Shanny has mentioned lacking a killer instinct, how many times have we heard "we didn't start on time"....... Dubas talks about failing in order to learn how to win. Rielly mentioned they need to look in the mirror to see if they were really ready for the playoffs, not just talk about how tight they are and that they believe in eachother etc. They don't stand up for eachother, they're easy to defend against in playoff-type hockey, the PP is pathetic, and Keefe has talked about how quiet the bench was until Wayne and Joe arrived...... which I find weird. Keefe also seems unable to unwilling to adapt in a 7 game series.

Just the wrong mix of core players and they try and find the grit, leadership and toughness from the bargain bin each year.

I agree completely. Winning is always the goal but I can never complain about losing when the players play as hard as they can, do their best and leave it all out there. Not only can I not complain but I would be proud of a team like that, regardless of whether they win or lose. Being a Leaf fan these last few years though has been just embarrassing, at least I can't think of a more appropriate word to describe the experience.

As far as being easy to play against, Doughty and Ovechkin also had something to say on the subject and though not everyone wants to believe it (well, I guess nobody wants to believe it), the evidence is piling up.

You assume way to much and value your own opinion way to much especially as you are wrong so often

The projection in this post is hilarious.

"To is a preposition with several meanings, including “toward” and “until.” Too is an adverb that can mean “excessively” or “also.” Just to be clear: two is pronounced the same as to and too, but it can't be used instead of either of them because it's a number."

He didn’t dominate anything in the playoffs and he sure didn’t produce anything the last 3 years. The only possible excuse I am willing to give his is being overworked
He actually did dominate pretty much everything in the playoffs other than conversion. And he has produced in the last 3 years; just not to the level he has shown in the regular season - which while problematic to the level we've seen, isn't unusual to some extent for the quality of defenses and goaltending he has faced over that time. There is no evidence to attribute this to "being overworked".

Marner and Matthews folded like a cheap tent again. There is no excuse for it. They failed again. Time to question their character. They get slapped around and look for the striped mommy to protect them. Stop making excuses for losing.

They choked again on us and playoffs have been a disaster. Maybe we need to really call it like it is. They are cowardly.

The only thing that matters
That may be your opinion but I didn't say that anywhere. It is however relevant to claims being made about Marner "being overworked", and understanding what the issue actually is and how to move forward.

It’s my opinion, based on his performance.

Me thinking that poor coaching contributed to Marner’s poor play is Marner hate…
Marner should not be penalty killing. Just wait until he breaks a foot blocking a shot gets injured seriously killing a penalty. Then it will sink in.
His energy is best spent creating offense. He will definitely perform better offensively with less minutes. It’s the stupidest thing thats been going on for two years now. Keefe is screwing the team by allowing it

Pretty obvious he was gassed. He had tunnel vision in round 1. In the regular season he's usually two steps ahead. In the playoffs he's 1 step behind when the puck gets on his stick.

Third year in a row saying this now. Get him off the PK so he can focus on being an offensive wizard.

the line matching and line changes... or lack thereof... killed us.
if we trade Marner now... we'll regret it
just my 2 cents

Nobody can say for sure but the opposite may well be true. One more year of playoff suckage and IMHO, Marner's trade value will take a big hit.

If that’s all you have as a response you have nothing, so give it a rest.
That response tells me all I need to know about you.

Agreed. It was all to plain for most people to see.

The time to put him on the PK was his 2nd or 3rd and pray that he takes a Datsyuk step in his development. He is what he is at this point, maximize his strengths and hope he gets out of his own head before his NTC kicks in.

I don't think it's a question of him being gassed though, he just handles pressure and adversity in a way that slows him down mentally. If he rested all season he'd still be making the same mistakes in the playoffs.

You didn't see any problems with the way the team started game 5 and how they basically gave the Habs a free 2-0 lead? What about having a similar start in game 6 but Campbell holding strong? You could noticeably see the mental weakness of the team in those last 3 games of the series with the way they started those games. These stats gaslight people in a way to think the Leafs are this super-dominant team that just got unlucky with goalies the last 2 playoffs when in reality you can see a deeper problem if you actually watch the games.

Bang on IMO.

When it really mattered, the Habs showed up and were ready to play from the drop of the puck. The Leafs weren't ready to go.

The same thing happened in games 4 &5 with CBJ and game 7's against Boston in '18 & '19

Marner will be the bestest in the NHL this season. Crow will be served so much they will be extinct.

Or something.

Just like last season. Hope that's not followed by him sucking in the playoffs (again). Anyhow, I won't be praising him until he excels in the playoffs. I was fooled last season but it's not going to happen again.
