I agree with you but if we have him in the line up we may as well get the most out of him.
For sure. Definitely not the best way to build a winner. Give a player with, no speed, no shot, no grit and no physicality 11 million dollar and then move him down the roster to the most we can out of him.

He's not a top 5 paid player in the league, for the record, and he earned his contract by putting up one of the best pre-signing periods in the entire cap era. While it's important to see more playoff production out of him going forward, there are valid reasons for him to have seen some level of decreased production over that time, and goal-scoring is not the skill that makes him an amazing player, so it's a bit misleading to focus exclusively on that to define his contributions.
He has had 5 years of playoffs and his last 3 have been his worst. How many more years do you think he needs.
I would love to hear what exactly you think is the skill that makes him an amazing player?
I will state what I thing are his weakness
No willingness to battle for the puck.
Poor shot
No straight line speed
Cannot handle any sort of pressure situations.

The marner stans and pr team need to see 13 more similar postseason seasons to maybe think Mitch might have to work on his shot. Just maybe tho

Posts like this is why I stay away from here. Pure BS.

worst coached player in the league

For three years in a row now, his level of play drops the minute the playoffs start, I'd be interested to hear how coaching is to blame for that. I'd also be interested to hear how coaching is to blame for that puck over the glass penalty at a crucial moment, when he had all the time in the world to not do something dumb.

Overused and tired. No way you should be playing him that many minutes a game. Look no further then Connor McDavid and his playoff performances to see what happens when you over play a forward all year long. Piss poor coaching.

Gary you are better then this. Puck over the glass. Tired and a mistake these plays happen all the time. Again comes down to coaching.
Our GM shares the blame with our coach. We should have kept Lou or hired a real GM as Dubas has ruined our salary structure.

Pretty big coincidence that the tiredness kicks in the minute the playoffs start, but up to that point he's fine. seems fishy to me.

What you're looking at is different segments of the fanbase who want different things.

Playing Marner and Matthews together, stacking lines and playing them big minutes was a function of certain types of fans wanting Toronto to have their own Perfection Line, get those glamorous numbers up and beat Boston at their own game.

The spread the wealth around, build 3x forward lines type of thinking didn't have that much traction because it was just the unexciting status quo thing under Babcock.

And now that we've seen the line stacking, people probably just want some moderation between the two choices.

Just an FYI
Last 5 years most playoff points for the Leafs Marner. You would think he was the worse based on posters in here.

Keep in mind though, Marner's yardstick isn't limited to other underachieving Toronto Maple Leafs, it's also inclusive of people like Brayden Point, Mikko Rantanen, Sebastian Aho, Mathew Barzal...

Just because Matthews has underachieved too it doesn't justify Marner doing so as well.

Not to mention they only played 58 games last year and had 2 weeks off before the playoffs. These marner stans excuses are hilarious. They just keep reaching further snd further
