I don't see how the Leafs scouting has anything to do with other teams passing on the players.
Fair enough.

I would still suggest that our draft position and scouting had more to do with our drafting Rielly and Marner than luck did.

There is a luck component. Edm was "lucky" enough to win the lottery in 2012 and got to choose Yakapov. Thing is anyone else in that 1 spot probably takes him as well as the consensus no 1. It was the wrong pick so yes luck is a factor. Any discussion was around Yakapov and murray, when in fact the discussion should have been Forsberg or Rielly.

You seem to be confusing hindsight with luck.

Agree to disagree I guess. I'm pretty convinced Marner is an elite player, and I'm not sure how anyone can watch him and wonder if he is or not, so I don't know what to tell you.
He clearly is elite. The fact that he produced at the exact same pace for 40 games the season before with Kadri and Marleau is lost on many. He did not need JT to produced at the same rate. JT has more goals then assists for the first time ever. Marners goals never went up much at all but JT goals did. Marner is a franchise level player. This coming season will remove all doubt.

we were luck with Rielly, Marner and Mathews. Mathews we won the lottery. Rielly was injured and should have went higher. Then Marner I would have selected him second without a doubt. The kid is a gift.

I think it is time for Dubas to put fourth his best deal.
Give him a wk to except.
If as his agent says there are teams that want to offer sheet then give Dubas the list .
Time to put pressure on Marner .
Would rather have Marner but if we need to trade him so be it.
The longer this goes on the more dislike from fans.
I don't want to hear about this all summer long and then Dubas signs himmfor 11 mil.

Don't trade just take the picks if a team offers enough for 4 firsts, if not just match whatever he accepted

Why the F has Dubas not secured a meeting with Panarin for a plan b and also to send a message to Marners camp they aren’t going to get into a Nylander 2.0 situation.

Probably because the Leafs have $12.2 million to spend and 4 roster spots to fill with that money. Panarin is a pretty awful choice too. The guy is turning 28 in October and someone is going to throw 7 years at him for $11 to $12 million? Hard pass.

Yea Panarin is an awful choice lol. I guess you’re buying into these so called “journalists” who are basically just agent mouth pieces when throwing out the 12 million dollar number. And I’m not advocating one way or the other but it would be smart business to create a perception that the leafs are prepared to go in another direction. It’s called leverage. This is chess not checkers.

Panarin will have his mind made up, and in no way will sit around and wait on the decision of Marner.

He will be gone July 1st.

Trade him.

We can’t not build a team because of one kid who thinks he’s worth the moon.

The hard part is = value is hard to find. If the team he scored 90+ points won't pay him, who will + give up prime assets? Hard to find a match.

Sunny, long weekend.
Just did the liquor store run, going to work a few more hours to pay for it and then done until Tuesday.
Summers too short to stare at a screen.

Yup.

Boat, Lake, Anchor, Grill, Book, Tunes, ..........looking forward to it.

lol

How much would you pay Panarin? PLEASE answer
If I’m getting 4 1sts for a Marner offer sheet I’d sign him for 10. Don’t come at me with the 12 mill number thrown out by Dreger who has been flushing his reputation down the toilet the past month with his ridiculous takes.

I can see dubas standing firm on the 2 year 8 mil contract with a large chunk of the second year being paid as a signing bonus this year. so marner pockets 12-14 mil july first. I think it is the smartest play at this point it gets his number down and gives us another window to re sign him. but if he goes the offersheet way I just cant see us matching a stupid number. at that point he has proved he doesn't want to be a leaf and the only thing that matters to him is being the highest paid player on his team.

Not sure how this is so lost on folks. IF Marner gets an OS, it will be after Panarin and Duchene have signed.

So Panarin is not even a remote possibility
