Dreger or Marner?

Dreger, obviously.
He's trying to drive up his price like he's going to prison if Marner signs under 10M
Never ever mentions any other RFA but Marner. This piece of shit isnt even an insider since Nonis left. He only reports facts once a deal is announced, other than that it's only his made up stories and ridiculous speculations.

Dreger uses very specific language that most people glance over to just say whatever gets him the clicks.

What I don't get is that everyone in the NHL is predicting Point to get 9-9.5 million per on a deal. Rantanen is predicted to get the same. So what makes Marner who is also a winger, any more valuable in the league? Point only had 2 less points this season then Marner playing in 6 less games, Rantanen has 8 less points playing in 11 less games. All around the same age. All in the league for the same amount of time. All broke out in one season which was last season. Only difference between the 3, Marner didn't crack 30 goals the others did. All play with superstars on their teams, so they are the only star.

Sorry makes no sense. I don't see how any team with OS him if the numbers being floated around that he wants is that much more then those 2 other players. If Im a team I OS the others first.

My brother inlaw has been around hockey in the GTA for a very long time, my nephew played with players like McDavid, Del Cole, and Mitch Marner. He knows Mr Paul Marner very well. Been around him for years. The way it is explained to me is that this idiot hockey dad caused a lot of issues for Mitch through all of his young hockey career. This is all his doing. He always thought his son was better then everyone else. Even when he played at same time as McDavid, he got into an argument with McDavid's parents because he felt Marner was better. He's a class A idiot. Thrown out of hockey rinks continuously.

If Mitch isn't going to stand up to his father and let him run his life. Then no matter how much I love the kid, he needs to go. Leafs organization does not need that type of circus.

I guess i'm in the minority. If I had a competitive team and the cap space, I'd easily trade four 1sts for Marner. Easily.

Agree 100% about doing that trade. Not sure about us being in the majority though, seems like a pretty obvious move but who knows I guess.

How many competitive teams have the picks and cap space necessary to sign that offer sheet though? That's the limiting factor here, obviously everyone would love Marner but among playoff teams there's not many that can do it.

Well, all it takes is one so again, who knows?

I just can't see it happening as they have everything to lose.

Fans are already turning on Mitch and something like this would be the last straw for many of them.
It's interesting, this seems to be the only place I see the some fans turning against him.
It came up in conversation on my beer league team Thursday, golf tournament I played Friday and a party I was at Saturday and the consensus seemed to be that people will be pretty upset with the team if they lose this player.

Mitch visiting teams may be the best thing for Dubas. Here is our best offer for 3, 5 and 8 years. Go ahead and find a team that will meet your ask.

Losing Marner to an OS frees us from cap hell, and puts the load squarely on the shoulders of Matthews, Tavares and Nylander to carry the team.

Arizona is a team to watch out for as I understand.
Mitch has a long history with Hofford as well as the Dvorak connection.

Makes sense. The average fan places like here is more in tune with the day to day reports of what's happening. It's hard to mostly blame the team for this, if half what we hear is even true.

Yup babcock is doing wonders in scouting in europe.
Just like anything who knows what you or any of us would have done last summer with marner. Its not easy racking up points in this league but you knew marner would have scored 94 pts? You knew even though tavares is a great player would have topped his career high in goals last year? You knew Matthew's would have gotten hurt off troubas hit to allow marner to lead the team in points on his contract year?

I had a feeling they would do well but didnt expect such high numbers right away.
I know I would not have offered 9M to someone that his hole career is 2 60 pts seasons. I'm not convinced he a career 90pt+ career guy, hope so but no it wasnt as easy as at least your saying.
Dubas could have done better, specially with nylander which led to the rest but the difference of what he should have got these contracts locked up for isnt huge.
Put it this way....if you were able to lock up marner for 9M last summer, what number do you think nylander would have negotiated for right after?

I would have taken care of Nylander first. Then matthews and marner at the same time.

I think it was obvious marner was going to have a breakthrough year playing with Tavares. So whatever his camp was looking for last summer, I would bet would be less than they would ask for this summer.

I think the Marner contract would have to be something truly absurd for us to even consider not matching. Even if matching means we have to trade him in a year.

Arizona with their financial restrictions is 100% a team that needs to build through the draft.

That being said, they are a team that I would welcome their 4 1st round picks, considering their history.

It is clear to me that anything under the number that requires 4 1st will be matched. Above that number and all bets are off. Dubas sent that message to the Marner camp at the draft.

From that I gather Marner is asking around $11M AAV and for 5 years not 8.

Mitch is on the verge of signing a vet lucrative deal. He had one of the best seasons in OHL history. He will likely score 100 points in the N. I think God's Dad did pretty well.

There was a lot of chatter last summer that Mitch wanted to bet on himself. If you think about it too it makes complete sense. He had 2 seasons at opposite ends of the 60s, but that doesn't tell the story of the way he ended that second season. The pace he put up in the last 33 with Kadri/Marleau and also the playoffs. He wasn't gonna get paid as if he'd now arrived, he was gonna get paid on the overall 2 year body of work. Then we sign Tavares July 1. There just never was any incentive for Marner to sign before playing this year out and doing what he believe he could do, and ultimately did.

This is imo the reality of the situation Dubas found himself in with negotiating with Marner.
