Except for people weren't making a big deal of the Nylander situation until he didn't show up to training camp.

Wayyyy too early to compare it to the Nylander situation.
The problem this time around is Marner is affecting what we do in free agency. Last year we were able to sign Tavares and still had enough cap space to sign Willy whenever.

Marner f***ing shit up right now.

A bit unfair but his agent and his dad are the ones saying he deserves this and that and other RFAs signing don’t matter....

Wow, he lead all forwards in points, points per game, plus minus, take aways, short handed points and is worth just as much as anyone on his team, you all need to quit pretending his isn’t asking for fair value to his team.

People are not asking for him to accept a 7mil contract. What people are asking is that he has to consider what Rantanen and Point and Laine and Aho are signing into considerations. If Point and Rantanen are signed for 9.5mil/8 yrs. Marner’s camp can’t throw those numbers out and just look at what JT and Matthews are being paid and demand he wants that much too.

Well you can see the Dubas strategy of letting Ferris know that he's busy tending to other Leafs matters.

"Sorry man unless you want to talk reasonably I have other business to take care of."

It's interesting that Dubas just talked about possibly not matching offersheets while in the meantime Kapanen's and Johnsson's contracts are close to being done...hmmm...I wonder who Dubas was referring to when he said that...

These guys get paid as value to their team, he bet on himself and proved he has the most value, your asking him to take less then the other guys on his team because you dont want to pay him.
“Sorry Marner we don’t value you as much” it’s the GM’s fault not his.
Do you think any of these guys Point,Aho,Rantanen are going to get told to go f themselves while the team pays other RFA’s and similar aged players who produced less and were used less more money?
That’s not how things are done and your GM should know better.

Point and Rantanen aren't as good as Marner. Marner also plays in all situations. If Matthews is getting over 11x5 and can't even hack it on the penalty kill, Marner deserves above what Rant and Point are getting, because he'll play in every situation, and is a threat every single time. Give him his contract, and give him the C too.

the Leafs have sucked for decades

now, after all this time, they come across this rare and special, elite player known as Marner

they aren't letting this opportunity pass, because something like this won't come around again

they're signing him

Can you show a quote of his agent or dad indicating he deserves a certain level of salary? Or a media pundit indicating that anyone who knows something has given any figure? Afaik all we have is Paul saying he doesn’t agree that fans/media don’t consider Mitch in the captain conversation and Ferris saying Leafs offered Marner less than they thought they were worth last summer, but that number is undisclosed.

Where is this information you’re getting?

Most (or at least the loudest) seem very quick to latch on and misinterpret anything that rings negative toward Marner and the Leafs. Same thing happened with Nylander. It’s just a culture of blind cynicism on these boards.

Now trade Connor Brown for draft picks and sign MM for 9.5. Problem solved. MM is not 3 million dollars better than WN. One lousy low firstrounder is not the end of the world. Being a cowboy is.

Also Leafs are after a RD for four million. Dubas is no dumbass.

Marner's meeting with other teams next week, so the Leafs should be doing that too. Meet with Panarin, Duchene, Lee, etc. We can't let our RFAs hold us hostage, and we should have other viable options lined up or at the very least legitimately explored.

Having the potential to sign a top UFA and trading Marner for a massive trade return gives us more control of the situation then just sitting here twiddling our thumbs letting Marner sign an offersheet somewhere or leverage us into paying him substantially more than we're comfortable paying.

He didn't become the Gretzky we all know because of his PK.
When i said he was awesome in pk i meant it. He took the puck and skated in every direction while the opposing team chased and tried to take the puck away from him. They usually couldnt. It was amazing to watch.

Desperate people running desperate teams make decisions in desperation. Usually, the wrong ones. Contractually, Dubas has been a nightmare for our franchise.

He’s signed Nylander Matthews Kapanen Johnsson Tavares Moore Gauthier Mikheyev Rosen Sparks so far, which contracts are the bad ones?

You really are starting to sound like a broken record.

If the Leafs really are the team you cheer for (I honestly question that), and if everything, in your estimation, is so dire and morose, do yourself a favor and start "cheering" for another team.

Your quality of life deserves it........

The prospect of four 1st must be intriguing...:sarcasm:
I say let Jordan go on an offer sheet so we can sign Panarin for 1MM a year while keeping 4 1sts and drafting 4 scrubs who can each easily penalty kill and put 94 points up if put next to Tavares. Matthews should get up to 160 points because that is what he will do when he gets a good winger like Panarin.

Careful, you’re begging for an earful of “Matthews is a 73pt player”, valuing Pastrnak based on what he did after he signed, Ehlers > Nylander before he signed and Leafs players haven’t won a cup yet.
