It’s a dump in, you have Tavares and Lub on the right side of the ice. Lubushkin is already pinching up. Tavares is attacking the puck carrier. Ideally Marner cuts off Pasta but as we established Marner was not paying attention.

Rielly should be closer to the net or at least closer to the left corner for puck retrieval, especially if Boosh is pinching up. Nylander is high in the middle. Do we need 4 guys high on a dump? Who is going to retrieve the puck lol? This is simple, if one dman is pinching, the other stays low. I’m sure they all assumed the puck was going to be rung around and not dumped in cross ice, but that’s why you have one guy stay back just incase. It might be more indicative of Keefe’s netural zone defensive scheme. But Rielly is completely out of position there

Personally Id like to have Mo up higher so he can pace better and gain speed. I think deeper leads to he same flat footed response, so he's at the mercy of his reach

Boosh, JT, Willy all seem to have their responsibilities covered. Mo flat footed and Marner allowing the speed to be gained are the issues

If Marner interfered Pasta it's 2 mins and everyone is up in arms about him taking a penalty. Wingers don't run interference on dump ins anymore, this isn't the 90's.

Regardless, that goal is on Samsonov and Rielly.

This is how I see it as well, if he impedes that’s a clear as day interference or trip called against the leafs.

What I am saying is that there is no point kept discussing that play. It really doesn’t matter if it is MM, or Reilly or Sammy or Willie or Keefe or Dubas or Tre or Shanny.

That play wasn’t the play that screwed the Leafs the Cup.

I just don’t see why someone would bring it up beside trolling MM and his fans and people responding are just falling for it.

IMO on the best of his days Mitch would have followed him and shrunken the ice surface, without interference. But most players probably would not in the same situation. We hold him to the highest of standards, as we should.

It was a great play by Lindholm. Not so great by Rielly and Samsonov.

Rielly was the guy stay behind, his goal was to be first on dump and get caught out of position.

Its hockey 101 and If anyone blaming marner on that play, he certainly NEVER PLAY hockey and certainly dont understand anything about team system

holy crap we are still talking about game 7 last year. It's been half a year and it's still talked about.

To throw my two cents in, was it partly marner's fault? Yes, but I put more blame on Rielly, Samsonov and the team (mostly core 4) for only scoring 1 goal in the prior 60 minutes.

I only even blame marner because I expect more defensively from him than anyone, I would want him to make that read and hustle to catch up to it, but it's not really fair as the play happened in a few seconds, I just expect a lot from him on the defensive end of the ice.

I'll stick by my statement that samsonov needed to throw a poke check out, whether he gets pastrnak or the puck doesn't matter it stops the play. The puck pretty much went through the blue paint and he did nothing about it.

Rielly and Nylander don't help by kinda sorta just chilling around on the ice like it's a frat party, but I really think samsonov played that about as passively as possible

To me, there was zero urgency to challenge the puck carrier. I would prefer the F1 to be harder on the puck. Every Leaf player was literally sitting back waiting for the Bruins to attack and not a single one of them took a stride until the puck was in the back of the net. Can't make things easy on your opponents in the playoffs. Even the dump ins.
