Does anyone actually think marner should have made the leafs out of camp and playing on a regular shift so far this season?
I didn't for probably all the reasons posted against his being on the team this year.
I don't think he lacks he smarts or the skill but even those attributes need to mature.

From what I have seen, he stays on as long as he wants and he plays D, wing and centre all at the same time  going to have to see what he does during the WJC, if he stays on his wing? lol

He's increasing his skill level, trying different things, he's strong defensively & he's playing a ton of minutes all in one of the best development leagues in the world.

He'll have plenty of time to learn Babcock's systems when he joins the Leafs. Babcock's system isn't difficult to learn, you just have to want to learn it & apply yourself.

Marner needed the OHL this year and needs the AHL next year; problem is we can't send him to the AHL. The thing to do with guys who can't go to the AHL in their second year is to hide them and reduce their minutes on the 3rd line until they prove they can handle more. Marner needs to play a little more heavy while maintaining his skill and speed.

God that would be among the most talented forward cores in the league next year. Do not want Stamkos unless the contract is reasonable though.

The man reason Marner isn't in the NHL this year is because he still has a teenagers body. An 18 year old weighing 160 something is bad news.

Not for the last 15 games or so.
He may not be taking the faceoff in those last 15 games or so, but he sure as hell is playing more C than wing when the play is on. I think they may be easing him into it slowly, not sure, but he's defintely a C in my eyes.

He kind of plays wherever he wants when the play is on, but to say that he's be 'playing centre' is a serious, serious stretch.

he stays out on a shift as long as he wants and he plays all over the ice like its a game of pick up :nod::nod::nod:

Yea I'm sure the coach has no say in how long he keeps out the best junior line in the country. They should play their other lines more evenly considering how good the Knights depth is..

so, mitch marner, do you think you are going to be ready to play for the maple leafs next season?

“i hope so,†the leafs’ first-round pick in 2015 said before arriving at canada’s world junior selection camp on thursday.

“but it’s not really up to me. I can train my body as much as possible but it really depends on the team and if they feel i’m ready.â€

many observers of the ontario hockey league figure there won’t be much debate in training camp next fall if marner continues to do what he has been doing for the london knights.

Marner won’t be eligible to play for the toronto marlies of the american hockey league, and there is the feeling he will be too good for the ohl. Scratch that, some feel that’s the case now, and that there’s not much more developing marner can do at the major-junior level.

Marner has amassed 58 points (22 goals and 36 assists) in 25 games with the knights and is on a 19-game point streak.

“the feedback i got from (last) weekend is that as good as he was in scoring, he competed like a (madman),†hockey canada director of player personnel ryan jankowski said.

“nothing surprises me with mitch. He’s a rink rat. He loves the game. To work as hard as he did (after getting the selection camp nod), it’s a testament to what kind of person he is and how much he loves and respects the game.â€

marner has given leafs fans reason to be more than hopeful for the club’s future, and for marner, what’s appealing is he isn’t the lone source of optimism.

“it’s pretty nice knowing you have players who are the same age and are going to be in the same boat as you are in these next few years,†marner said. “i’ve seen what (william) nylander is doing nd he’s lighting it up (with the marlies). It’s fun to watch.â€

you've lost all credibility on these forums with that 1st line of all centers and then marner centering the 3rd

Been huge on him since day 1 and all he has done is prove me right so far . He will be a regualr in the top 10 in scoring many years after his rookie season he just oozes skill and natural hockey IQ which is just filthy.

?

You do realize he's playing for a coach who has been in the NHL before?

How many NHL players has London developed? They don't just let their players 'do what they want and play all over the ice'.

If you actually watched the game, you'd noticed Dvorak and Marner have a hybrid setup in the defensive zone wherein the first forward back, between either Marner or Dvorak, plays the centre position while the other plays wing. It's not that hard to pick up the pattern after watching a few games in a row.
