I think its extremely unrealistic to expect Marner's weight/size to be the same over the year. He's still young and his body is filling out. He should be 170 by next year's camp. Much like how Nylander filled out relatively quickly in his draft+1.

Hes too good for the ohl at wing. Make mark hunter force his brother to play him at center. Maybe threaten to call him up. At least that will develop him. Plus centers are far more valuable than wingers.

Nylander, kadri, brown... Possibly stamkos and Matthews.. We're set at centre, we need marner on the wing ;)

Unless marner 100% earns a spot, babcock wont take him, i believe this anyway.

Honestly I am all for the guy going back and developing and I remember screaming when people said Kadri should be up...but I think Marner is different. He just has too much of a gear with the skill to not rob a spot come next training camp.

As much as i love Marner, Patrick Kane sets the bar for skilled forwards. Lets not anoint Marner to be on the same playing field just yet.

When I look at William Nylander, he reminds me a lot more of Patrick Kane than Marner. He's all control, can speed up or slow down the game at will. Mitch Marner kind of reminds me of a super charged Ryan Nugent Hopkins. I wanted to say he looks like a 2015 reimagined Wayne Gretzky because he's hunched over, kind of gangly and thin, extremely elusive and creative, but I think people would get the wrong impression of what I'm trying to say.

most people would say nuge is a 1st line center. if marner is a better nuge that would be pretty good.

No true. Nylander looked better then Arcobello but we all know who got in the starting lineup.

Nylander looked better than most of the team. If all that crap about "earning a spot" was true at all, Nylander would have started the season on the second line at a minimum.

They did the smart thing and kept Nylander down to dominate the AHL and develop as a center.

The smart thing to do next year with Marner is start him with the Leafs. He's done with the OHL after this year and it might even be damaging to send him back and he cant play AHL.

3rd line NHL next year and then let him try and take a top 6 job.

Marner should make the team bearing a complete collapse on his part. He will learn nothing from being in the OHL next year and might even develop some bad habits. He should learn how to play NHL style rather than destroying the OHL for the third time in a row.

they need a 1 player exception for AHL clubs for kids that are too good for junior, can't believe this hasn't happened yet.

It hasn't happened because that's 30 stars not in the CHL, they need to sell tickets too!

Marner definitely won't be going to Europe to play next year. He plays for the Hunters either in Toronto or London. If he's ready and earns a spot it will be with the Leafs. If not it's back to the Knights for a 4th season just like Domi did. If that happens it's not a disaster as everyone is saying. He's still not playing centre and needs to go through a full season at that position. He needs to get better and stronger at faceoff draws and defensive responsibilities that come with playing centre. Remember Doug Gilmour was known as a defensive specialist in the NHL before his time with the Leafs. Marner is only 18 so he's still very young and fragile. He was injured twice last year and if he's not ready then he'll definitely return to the Knights. The Leafs are not going to take any risks.

I don't see it happening.

London could possibly be able to block it, not sure

I think it's NHL time though. He needs to face the best.

He's ready now, no reason to think he won't be next year.

There's no chance Marner goes back to London next year. What's the purpose? So he can score 200 points instead of 160 points? It's obvious that he's far too good for junior hockey.

He would undoubtedly benefit from the leafs trainers in adding bulk to his frame and learning pro systems from Babcock.

The leafs can use him in a sheltered role on special teams.

Leaf trainers would be currently working with him.

Does London have their own or do you think because Marner has access to (likely) better professionals in regards to this being drafted by a pro NHL organization, he'd now be following their plan to help him get stronger/gain weight/grow 1-2 inches in height :)P) versus the London staff?

Legitimately wondered this a while back.

You gain muscle but eating well and lifting heavy things. As long as the effort level is there I really don't think it matters if he does it in London or TO.

Marner won't go to Europe.

He might make the NHL next year ... and he might not.
Nothing is guaranteed. Depends on how he does between now and then.

Next topic please ...

London would have their own who would help him follow what the Leafs have laid out for him.

He's done school so he has a lot of idle time to be working on this.
