Defense is an area where we can improve anyway, so I'm fine with this. We have solid enough depth on both wings now, we need to get the central defense up to par next. A guy like Alvarez should never be more than a sub, ditto Campbell.

Don't tell that to people that are drooling all over the place with regards to Alvarez. I'll be nice though because it can always be difficult as a young kid in their first year on a new team in a new country.

Campbell though needs the boot. He's the kid who doesn't know how to dribble which is why he needs to kick the ball 5 feet in front of him every time.

Having said that, I still blame the shitty defense on the system rather than the players.

As for the wings, I don't know how settled it is actually. For me, Pearce needs to start. Raheem was never consistently solid enough to warrant starting and Pearce is too good to not be a starter. So maybe one leaves and they bring in a younger player a la the left sides Bugaj who can spot start and gain experience to maybe one day take over.

On the right though, I can't help but agree with a lot of people who say that JMR isn't a wingback and will be much better suited somewhere more central so I can definitely see/hope that they bring two people in so that he can move more central but that also means you need a starter as Bugaj isn't ready.

Don't tell Joey though as he knows best and he's determined that MLS Next Pro isn't worth the investment.

I hated a lot on Campbell but during the last stretch of the season, he was solid. If he can stay at that level, he can be an asset. Since there will be a lot of movement already, I'd keep him for now.

They need a solid CB who will lead and organize the defense. Waterman has shown he's not that guy.

Pearce is definitely starting material. If Edwards can accept that he's the second option, I'd keep him. He's all heart, he leads by example. Yes, there's games where it seems every ball he touches, he loses it but else, he was quite reliable. Truth is, with the schedule, it's good to have depth at all positions. The second option will still have quite a bit of playing time. That said, there's still a salary cap, not sure what Edwards makes.

I have Edwards/Pierce and Bugaj/JMR basically as a 4 man unit. They can split the time in half on each side and we'll always have a league average presence with fresh legs on the field, the way Courtois did in the second half of the season. I'm comfortable with these 4 guys and I don't see it as an area that needs improvement, baring injuries obviously. CB is where we could make some real gain IMO, especially if we don't want to spend much, which as we all know is this franchise's MO.

We're on the same page for Pearce/Edwards. My only adjustment is that it's not so much salary cap but rather internal budget. Raheem makes 335k with another potential 32.5k in bonuses. Pearce makes 450k with another potential 57k in bonuses. That's way too much salary on this team for a backup regardless as to who you view the starter is.

For Campbell, I'll sidestep things a bit. I take absolutely nothing from the last 7 games of the season for a lot of reasons. Overall, people are looking at those game with beer goggles and if you actually look at the games critically, you'd see that the person is not the 7 or 8 you think they are but rather the 4 or 5 at best they are.

When Gervais made his comment about making the playoffs, this is what I wrote.

New England (15th)
Cincy (2nd)
Charlotte (6th)
New England (15th)
Chicago (14th)
San Jose (14th)

Atlanta (9th)
Charlotte (6th)
NYCFC (5th)

*Bold
are home games*

Let's be honest here, the first game in that list was the 5-0 drubbing and then they tied them not long after. So basically we're using data against teams that were mostly either on par, below, or really below us. Not sure that data set can tell us much.

I have Edwards/Pierce and Bugaj/JMR basically as a 4 man unit. See my post above as I comment on the Pearce/Edwards situation especially with regards to salary. I'm not sure what to make of JMR. He's ok defensively and he can have decent speed. I just see his crossing game as being really poor (same with Edwards) and that's kind of necessary for wingbacks. We'll see what happens.

I think Edwards quality is not where MLS is at right now. He is an honest worker, but he has 0 crossing/passing technique.

We could definitely use an upgrade.

But the most urgent upgrades are at CB, central mid and a DP in the front three.

This is actually good news for the perception of MLS.

A team full of washed up players isn't cutting it.

Atlanta has actual talent in their roster though, the standings in the reg. season don't reflect the quality of their roster.

They invested heavily in the Summer window. But Miami is not only old stars, they have a bunch of really talented SA talents.

Indeed, but the international perception is always Messi, Alba, Busquets and Suarez.

I wonder if they go on a bit of a fire sale. Would love to nab a Campana or Noah Allen.

I wonder if they'd be instrested in Coccaro.

THe MLS playoffs is kind of bizarre.

CF Montreal had to play the first round few days after having finished their regular season. it seems like ages since they have been eliminated by Atlanta.

Now. Atlanta vs Miami took over three weeks (at least) to play 3 games

There will be another round in the East and in the West before we finally know the two opponents. The Final game could be played late November if not later….

WOW. MSL is shooting itself in the foot with such long Playoffs while football, basketball and hockey are going full speed.

The Final is usually player around Dec 10th
MLS also want to change their schedule. They would be playing almost all year long against all the other NA Leagues

In other news, it's not going so well for Choinière's new team
