Marner is fine, Hyman is not. He's been invisible, and that'the real issue here
To be fair, he JUST got back from injury. Not easy to just return at 100% for anyone. Gonna take some time.

No question he should have backhanded there, too cute.Sometimes I would like to see him take the less is more approach in these spots.
On the second replay it clearly showed he had Price so far out of his net that a simple backhand to open net would have resulted in a goal but he tried the most difficult option trying to go around him. This isnt even just a Mitch issue as you see it quite often from alot of our players trying to score the prettiest highlight reel goal possible.
Agree with everything else you posted. Amazing player that doesnt get enough credit for all the ways he impacts the game.
Agree that he's gripping the stick to tight and overthinkingI'd agree that Hyman clearly doesn't look like himself thus far.
To me, Marner looks like he's gripping his stick tight and overthinking things a bit. We know how much this means to the guy, he's a big time player. I think he's gonna settle down and start dominating.
Looks like Hyman is gassed all the time. It may be a few more games before he gets his legs backTo be fair, he JUST got back from injury. Not easy to just return at 100% for anyone. Gonna take some time.

I call false on this statement. He has turned the puck over countless times.
He’s also leads the team in ice time, so that stat needs context. And, as you say he has the puck on his stick probably more than anyone (caveat Matthews) so a passer is going to give it up here and there. He has 5 Giveaways on the team so far in the playoffs, the most on the team... however, none that I can remember over the 2 games have resulted in any damage. He has the puck so much he is always going to have this issue. But he also has to be creative to be effective, but NOT in the defensive or neutral zones. He can do whatever he wants in the O-zone... but where he has made some corrections is in the more dangerous areas.
So I should have said he is not turning the puck over in dangerous areas.

I'd challenge this. Creativity is fine, but he's throwing the puck away far too often offensively with no purpose. It's fine when he's trying something that doesn't really work out, but throwing the puck away needlessly, especially on the PP is something that can't happen with the regularity were seeingHe has 5 Giveaways on the team so far in the playoffs, the most on the team... however, none that I can remember over the 2 games have resulted in any damage. I just re-watched the first period because I was distracted while watching last night and ive seen three really solid checks from Mitch, not glances, full body, complete finish of the check.Did you say Marner was hitting?? Not sure what game you were tuned into, but I didn’t see one hit.
I did see some horrible forechecks where was the first guy in the zone was skated away from the corner and giving up the puck to avoid contact.
He did that in several occasions.
Gave up an easy scoring opportunity to make the cute play.
He was not good tonight by any stretch.
I think this is the fairest take on it.Thought Marner was better last night than in game 1 but can still step it up more

Marner is at his best when he's playing that high energy hustle game, we'll call that "Gilmour on a mission." He loses the plot when he gets a little too creative and starts throwing around "Blind Gretzky's" everywhere or feathering the puck with a seeming lack of respect to the opposition as a threat.
I guess that isn’t so bad he resembles Gretzky when he’s lost the plot. Better than Rickard Wallin I suppose.Marner is at his best when he's playing that high energy hustle game, we'll call that "Gilmour on a mission." Marner will be ok, but needs to get his legs going. He's gliding a bit too much at times in the offensive zone and it looks like he hasn't adjusted to the change in speed that often comes with playoff hockey.
Time and space are at a premium at this time of year and once Marner makes the adjustment, which will be soon, we'll be see him back to his best
Yea you should use offensive talent like that to its fullest. Dont waste any of it on PK.It may not be the speed he has to adjust to, he just might be logging too many minutes. Maybe too many minutes in the pk? I’ve never been a fan of him on the pk, there are plenty of options to use and keep players engaged
You are right. Mitch did play a good game. But if you factor salary he had a poor game because he wasn't tilting the ice at all. That's what you pay for. Marner said, i'm the man give me the money. Well now show us you could tilt the ice and dominate a game/series in the playoffs. Matthews just did.I guess you watched a different game last night, because me(and tons of others in this thread, if you have a quick read.....) saw something very different last night. Marner actually played a very good game. Matthews was our best player last night, IMO. But Marner was far from a liability out there. He did lots of little things RIGHT.
