Yamomoto is a year ahead of Frost. Different draft classes.

This is Yamomoto’s 3rd crack at the NHL. Frost’s first.

Yamomoto had 5 points in 26 NHL games prior to this season.

Yamamoto’s run this season in his third taste of pro experience doesn’t mean Frost is ready to do the same as a pro rookie. That’s expecting him to leap over Yamamoto’s development curve. Even ignoring Yammer’s 9 NHL games at 19, An extra year of seasoning from 20 to 21 can mean a lot.

Not to mention Yamamoto plays a less demanding position.

No....Yamamoto is not a different draft class. Both were drafted in 2017.

And the ENTIRE point was that the TOO SMALL Frost at 6'0 180 lb is quite bigger than the 5'8 156 lb Yam. Hmmm...I guess Farebee is way bigger too. Size and strength have been used as excuses by certain posters to support their demotions, yet here is a tiny Yam playing.

He's playing for Edmonton.
Different style of play, does Edmonton play defense?

We've seen Frost this year, he's been meh. At 3C he's not going to score enough to compensate for below average defense this season, especially in the playoffs. So right now he's the last resort at 3C.

As far as Farabee, I think that's more an issue of Laughton, who is scoring at a ridiculous pace this year - hard to demote one of your top scorers:
pp/60
Couts 2.50
TK 2.45
Laughton 2.44
JVR 2.28
Voracek 2.23
Lindblom 2.17
NAK 1.87
Farabee 1.73
Frost 1.67
Pitlick 1.64
Hayes 1.54
Giroux 1.53
Raffl 1.46

Farabee v Pitlick is tough, Farabee is better offensively but Pitlick is the straw that stirs the drink, when he's on ice he brings speed and energy to the forecheck. NAK, Pitlick and Laughton are among the leaders for forwards in both hits/60 and blocks/60.

Grant and Thompson are auditioning. Grant scored at a 1.85 pace two years ago with better linemates, 1.35 the last couple years with bad linemates on the 4th line, so on the 3rd line he's probably in the 1.5 -1.6 range. He doesn't have the speed of Frost, but is far more physical and a better fit defensively in AV's scheme.

Thompson is an offensive cipher, if Patrick was healthy, he'd be benched.
Of course, Bunnaman was even worse offensively as a rookie.

Like the Islanders a couple years ago,
Barzal is a good player, but
2017-18: 2.88 pp/60
2018-19: 2.04
2019-20: 2.14

Moving from a wide open offensive scheme to Trotz suppressed his scoring.
Given the Flyers are 8th in xGA, AV is probably suppressing Flyer scoring relative to more offense oriented teams, which makes the above scoring stats even more impressive.

So you want to use those numbers to say Laughton can't be demoted....yet JVR is right behind him and is on the 3rd line. So why can't Laughton?

And also using those number, Giroux should be on the 4th line along with Hayes and Frost out produces both of them. So I guess Frost should be playing.

Oh...Nick Suzuki who Frost has been better than every year since the draft and is younger than Frost, is on pace for 49 points this year. He started the season with 7 points in 18 games....the exact same that Frost had. They didn't demote him....they let him play om the 3rd line and learn from mistakes.

So let's not pretend that Frost could not have been put in the same position.

Maybe we should have played him as the #3C when the games didn't matter so that he would have been ready for this stretch when games now matter. Just an idea.

Oh...and what happens next year if Patrick IS healthy and plays? Where does Frost play?

I expect this to be the game that ends the Penguins' skid and then we start having to jockey with them in the standings again once they go on a tear.
I’ve been thinking that for a few games now. I’m trying to keep the faith though!
