Maybe they should have kept playing Frost in those games that don't matter you always talk about.

Maybe he should have worked harder over the summer to impress his new coach?

He's not that good right now, he's "meh," so other than people looking at him through orange colored glasses, don't know what the big deal is about. He has to be sheltered, which is a problem on the road, and during the stretch run, if you want to reduce the minutes for Couts and Hayes.

AV is a defensive first coach, Frost showed he's not ready to play NHL caliber defense.
If AV had confidence in Frost, he'd still be on the team playing 13-15 minutes a night.

They didn’t say he was a more valuable player. They said he might have brought more on-ice value this year. I mean, it’s still nuts, but a little less so than if you just read some regurgitating.

For the sake of clarity, I don’t particularly value their work and I don’t think their site is worth a sub. I’m just attempting to be sure we understand what was said.

Does EvolvingWild deem the Selke to be given to the best defensive forward with 100% of the focus on the defensive aspect? I imagine so, with no care in the world for scoring which is what the award really is.

Yes. Other names they’ve championed in previous years would include Kotkaniemi, Koivu, and Lindblom.

The stretch run and the playoffs are not when you prioritize player development.

Unless of course, you think they should wait another three years before making a serious playoff run?

It is when that player is superior to other guys on the roster.

Per your "dominating play" measure for staying up, Gagne wouldn't have been playing in his rookie year, Giroux wouldn't have played until 2010, Couturier would have needed to sit for like 6 years, Laughton shouldn't even be on the roster now, and neither should NAK or Myers. They should all be down in the AHL "developing."

Think about how disastrous that would be. And then think about how insane that standard is. Someone doesn't need to dominate to be quite useful. That's the reality. Frost is useful.

Oh, and requiring that young players be dominant to stick on the roster is how Hextall trapped himself into overpaying garbage veterans instead of slotting young players with upside who are "merely" useful into those slots.
Thank you for tagging in...I just can't deal with it today...lol.

I will add...isn't the benefit of having a Selke level C, a 7 million dollar 2-way C, and a newly acquired #4C, that you can afford to have a "skill" guy being sheltered?

Montreal up 3-0 on NYI. That's unexpected.

Look forward to seeing NY come back and tie it then win it in OT 5-4.

Damn Rangers winning....finish them St.L!

Isles losing their game in hand on us would be huge and go a long way towards securing top 3 in Metro

Rangers tied now

So if the NYI do lose this game...they will have 3 wins in their last 11 games: Detroit, SJ....and Philly.
