While I’m sure there was a mandate, the reporting seemed to be that Giroux specifically didn’t like Fletcher.

I can think of two

Dallas just hit big on guys like Robertson & Hintz given where they were drafted. You got a star & a first line caliber player respectively out of those with investing two second round picks.

Johnston looks like another well above average result compared to where picked too.

And the Flyers got guys like Hart and Ghost outside of the first round too.

Almost makes it seem like throwing away top 90 picks like they’re worthless is a bad idea. Plus, a GM with a brain could even use them to move up and get a guy like Konecny.

They just wanted filler content and grabbed NHL deal to help launch/grow its streaming service.
