At least we can all agree that fighting to "spark your teammates" is timeless. Transcendent even

Edit: I wonder how many fights there were during that 1936 game. I wouldn't be surprised if, back when men were men, they just played the game and tried to win.

Looks like no majors, if they gave them for fighting back then. Also before sudden death OT!

Look at the HHOFers on those rosters!

Fighting used to be rare. For the first 14 seasons the NHL kept track of fights, the league averaged roughly one fight every 5 games. Then came the expansion to 12 teams for 1967-68. You had a mixture of factors like more jobs for lesser skilled players and organizational emphasis on protecting stars because they were now harder to acquire.

More people around here than the average hockey fan would know, but of course it wasn't Flyers that pushed the league in that direction. It was the Bruins and Blues. The Flyers responded and we got the eventual sideshow it became.

It's always been a part of the game, but the 70s through the mid 90s were the real outliers in frequency. Fun, huh?

Your elite goal scoring talent this season: Connor McDavid, Tage Thompson, Alex Ovechkin, Bo Horvat, David Pastrnak, Jason Robertson, Jack Hughes.

Hughes, with 2 more goals, is somehow tied with Robertson and 1 goal behind Pastrnak. He has the lowest shooting % of any of those names, so it's not a Horvat situation. Career high in shots in 40 games. 52 goals in last 89 games. Insanity.
