They'll find something stupid to spend on.

I’m not sure they’ll have a prospect crack 40 points on his ELC. I view that as a position of strength in a flat cap world.

Who was the last Flyer to do that... TK, I think.

Since the start of the 13-14 season the full list is :

TK - 47 in 17-18 and 49 in 18-19

Provy - 41 in 17-18

Ghost - 46 in 15-16

Schenn - 41 in 13-14

Read - 40 in 13-14

You may well be right in the end. However all these new long term contracts being given out to unproven players with top end pedigree will not turn out well.

It’s the new way of doing business

It will be interesting to see in the future which has a better return on investment. These big contracts for young players coming off the ELC, or the big contracts for players who reach UFA. Obviously a bit of a different scenario re-signing a player versus outbidding other teams but there definitely has been a shift in who has been getting the larger contracts of late.

My guess is there will be more misses on the UFA's.

Ottawa is definitely being aggressive (not something I thought I would ever see). However if one or none turn out to be anchor contracts they are setting themselves up nicely.

Well, Farabee had 57 and 44 point paces. I count that.

I’m not even being facetious when I say, in this wave of second contracts at $7-8+ mil, that I’m not sure the Flyers have a prospect who will merit half that commitment, or who probably shouldn’t be bridged.

Kind of surprised this guy never resurfaced in Seattle. Maybe as Hak's assistant coach.

Today is his 36th birthday. He played 23 playoff games in his career, which is 23 more than Ristolainen has managed so far.

Unless we're talking McDavid level of talent, you should always bridge instead of giving out $7-8M long-term contracts to players without 3-4 years of consistent performance. Reason is simple, odds they'll cost much more than that two years down the road are slim (they'd have to raise their game to elite quality to garner $10+M), while there's a lot of downside risk - and the discount on a bridge deal will finance the extra cost of negotiating a deal close to free agency if the player is deserving of such a deal.

Hah. Better check Trots' track record.
His first year is basically installing schemes and evaluation, but even then, his teams don't go belly up.

sorry if this was posted but did anyone see that rumor that the Flyers talked w Pens about Zucker + a first for nothing to the Flyers?

Carchidi just posted about it

Thats exactly the trade I’d want to make right now, if we couldn’t make it work thats a shame
