Laine is grossly overrated and overpaid, one trick pony.

But he does illustrate that offensive metrics do undervalue good shooters, but his problem is that undervaluation isn't nearly large enough to compensate for his limited value on offense other than shooting, and his liability on defense.

Foerster, Gauthier may be plus shooters, but they also need to drive play and play defense to justify their picks.

Look, I’m not gonna assume anything but… Joffrey Lupul and Scottie Upshall are on that team.
Upshall had sex with a girl at a golf tourney down here, during the tourney, in the bunker. It was the talk of the tourney.

Lots of guys thinking back on what they have done in their past.

If F & G end up half as good as Laine it will be a miracle.

I sure hope they end up better than Laine, who is the Risto of forwards (reputation far exceeds his value).

Laine last four years:
xGF 43.08%, 41.72%, 39.71%. 39.69%
xGFrel -7.02, -2.25, -6.90, -5.97
Sh% 9.70%, 10.20%, 8.70%, 14.14%
pp/60: 1.35, 2.03, 1.12, 2.53

PP: g/60: 3.14, 2.20, 2.49, 1.57
Sh% 15.79%, 14.04%, 17.39%, 10.20%

For comparison's sake, JVR

xGF 44.52%, 56.35%, 52.65%, 47.36%
xGFrel -3.82, +7.33, +3.79, +2.25

pp/60: 1.87, 2.27, 2.11, 1.60
Sh% 12.39%, 14.02%, 7.69%, 10.35%

PP: g/60: 2.62, 1.43, 3.96, 2.52
Sh% 19.05%, 10.81%, 27.78%, 20.45%

Hah, I just read people suggesting they trade him instead of Nyquist when Laine was signed, and other people saying no that's not gonna happen.

4 more years at 5.4M and got 2 picks back, but JVR isn't tradeable without a first for ONE year? Sure...

I know the age difference for the players, but jesus...

There's more than an age difference.

A comparable for Bjorkstrand is TK, not JVR. Trading TK for a 3rd and a 4th would be very bad.

We never know who's available. That is hilariously low.
It's why I'd never sign anyone in free agency (except bargain hunting after the feeding frenzy).
Best value are trades for RFAs that their current team can't afford b/c they splurged on high priced free agents.

What a joke of a trade.

Just a reminder that our dickless gm spent 19 mill on hayes, TDA, Risto, and nic delauriers

Didn’t you advocate the Hayes signing tho and tda?

I really don't understand how we've ended up agreeing on this point given the last 4 years of discussion, but I freely admit I am a moron.

TDA is a RFA. 27 year old defenseman on a 2 year deal.

I didn't advocate the Hayes signing, I've just pointed out once they knew Patrick was damaged goods, it was either Hayes/Duchene or write off 2019-20 and maybe the next season while paying AV $5M a year. Wasn't going to happen.

It’s just baffling that’s the most competitive offer for Bjorkstrand. Other teams can fit this player.

I don’t understand this league. Bjorkstrand and Buchnevich go for a couple of day 2 picks. And the Flyers wet themselves to trade that package for the Justin Brauns. Being a smart patient team is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Don’t forget about Tony DeAngelo & that’s probably one of their better acquisitions from an on ice standpoint.
