Crouse is a useful player. He only turned 25 a few weeks ago.

Would he be useful at 5’9 170? Not really.

But is he useful at 6’4” 220? Absolutely.

There are different types of useful players in the NHL.
This seems to be lost on a lot of people. Do you want a team full of Lawson Crouses? No. Do you want a team full of high offense, low defense defensemen? No. Do you want a team of high offense, low defense forwards? No. You need a mix. Yes, I would love if every player was Connor McDavid and Roman Josi. That would be ideal. With the exception of the absolutely elite players, every single player on your team is going to have easily identifiable deficiencies. The idea is matching those players with other players that cover up for the deficiencies.

You don't want every player to be a 6'8" slow moving tough guy, but having one of those guys on the team isn't the end of the world. You don't want every forward to be a stand in front of the net power forward who can't really do anything outside of that, but having those guys are important. You don't want every player to be a 5'8" guy that can skate and pass but can't create traffic or win board battles because he's too small, but having those guys are important. And so forth and so on.

That being said. Chuck Fletcher sucks and this team sucks and we have all the wrong players.

A team of 5'8 guys who can skate and make plays will absolutely beat a team of 6'8 stone handend cement heads.
And they'll be killed by a team with a bunch of 6'0 200 lb guys who can skate and forecheck.
Which is why TB went out and got a bunch of those guys.

Balance is the key - you want a few "smurfs" with speed and skill paired with bigger forwards who'll do the dirty work for them.
What you don't want are slow slugs, because they can neither make plays, effectively forecheck or run an aggressive PK.

Timely mistakes in the Playoffs will always be placed under a microscope. Comes with the territory. His mistakes contributed to 3 losses. Calgary benefits from it now though and Florida will surely miss him.

Also look at where Gudbranson is...that's one hell of an upgrade for Calgary.

Huberdeau makes the Gaudreau loss a wash - but i'm not sure how they replace Tkachuk.

If Klingberg ends up taking a short term deal at around $5m it's not going to make the DeAngelo acquisition look any better.

Seattle didn't qualify Donato so he became a UFA, and they just re-signed him for the bargain price of 1 x $1.2m. He had 31 points in 74 games so he would have got more than that in arbitration, which is why Seattle didn't give him a QO.

That's pretty shrewd lol

And I was thinking the same thing re: Klingberg vs. DeAngelo..guess we will see what signs for.

Adding Burakovsky and Bjorkstrand could be really good moves if they have enough quality at center to make use of them.

TDA has more upside (and more risk) than Klingberg.
Klingberg looked like he was destined to win a Norris in his early 20s, then flatlined.
pp/60 (5x5) last four years: 0.91, 0.76, 0.93, 1.04
xGA/60 last four years: 2.26, 2.50, 1.91, 2.77
good PP QB.

It's not like he's been on a bad team, those four seasons Dallas lost 2nd rd, lost SC final, missed PO, lost 1st rd

The guy watching Klingberg's pay day is Sanheim:

pp/60 (5x5) last four years: 1.11, 1.06, 0.78, 1.06
xGA/60: 2.30, 2.41, 2.07, 2.71
