We signed Johnson to sit on the bench.
Fabbro is a not a fine #4, if he was, he wouldn't have been waived by a bad team.
He was a 3rd pair guy the last couple years before they demoted him this season.
I'm sure Preds tried to move him for a ham sandwich and got no takers.
Unless he has a miraculous turnaround, I doubt he'd fetch more than Zamula.
But Shaw is a defensive wizard. Surely, he would turn him around. I mean he has turned Risot into a top pair Dman who will likely get a 1st at the deadline.

Fabbro is 26 on an expiring deal. He is someone a rebuilding team would take a look at for free. Nothing to lose.

Is it weird that I prefer Buffalo Risto?

Haven’t seen a full game since sometime last season, but at least there he seemed to be a bit of a threat offensively no? In Philly he’s kind of just a body. For all the propaganda he’s not on a Trouba, or Gudas level of physicality.

He's playing a more disciplined game under Shaw.
No longer getting out of position to chase hits.
Last year he focused on defensive positioning, this season he's been more aggressive on offense.

He'll never live up to his draft position or what CF gave for him, but he's turned into a solid, physical RHD - probably the only Flyer who's effective at clearing guys in front of the blue paint.

This is the point where a proper GM would offer the Pens a big trade to help them salvage their season.
This is where Dubas starts laughing hysterically when made that offer:

PLAYOFFS?! Don’t talk about—playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs!?!

And pours himself a really stiff drink.

Such as what?

Honestly, I try not to pay attention to the Pens, my blood pressure's bad enough as it is, so I don't know that I have a solution (also, WOOF, I just took a look at their cap situation and may God have mercy on their souls). That said, working backwards from the idea that they're still going to try to catch lightning in a bottle until Crosby retires or gives them permission to trade him, for all that I think Tippett's overpaid, I could see him looking quite promising as Crosby's right wing, we'd just need suitable inducement to make a deal.

Why do the Pens trade for Tippett ? They are probably in a worse situation then the Flyers

Duchene with 18 points in 14 games. Of all the players I did not expect him to perform this well at this stage of his career.

What could've been if we had signed him in 2019. He was at the top of my list.

Sure has played a lot for someone signed to sit on the bench. Forces me to think he wasn't signed to sit.

Either rebound or fading to obscurity?
Ghost is still Ghost and doing well, similar to his good (not best) years here. He's playing on a fun team, that plays to his strengths in Carolina. Provorov went to Columbus who I regularly forget has a hockey team. I think he's continuing to be nothing special, so fading into obscurity for him.

Actually, Provorov may be having his best season since being paired with Niskanen, playing on the right side with Werenski, now on the left with Stevenson (Fabbro being paired with Werenski his first game).

Which isn't a suprise, Provorov is a solid D-man, it's just that he flatlined early.
We got a 1st, (2) 2nds, Walker and Grans for him and taking Pederson.
So that worked out fine.
