Duchene with 18 points in 14 games. Of all the players I did not expect him to perform this well at this stage of his career.

What could've been if we had signed him in 2019. He was at the top of my list.
Duchene did get bought out by Nashville. Not sure what happened, but they are getting hit with big cap penalties this year and next year.

Didn't I read that they wanted a change in the locker room?

I guess they bought him out to sign O'Reilly. Hasn't really paid off for them. At least Duchene still has that hunger to win a Stanley Cup. O'Reilly hasn't been the same since 2019.

While I wanted neither, I remember the Hayes > Duchene arguments that summer. Duchene isn’t on that contract anymore, but that’s really just an example of smart teams buy low and don’t sign non-Panarin UFAs to max term.

I almost forgot Kev was on the Penguins. That checks out.

Don't think Duchene was interested in the Flyers.

People like to treat FAs like it's EA2024 GM mode, as if players don't get to make a choice.

Once money hits a certain level, most players tend to make decisions based on team, location, family issues, etc. Certain players love NYC (Panarin, Fox), certain players want a low key city, some are influenced by state taxes, other by climate, other by their wife's preference. Giroux, for example.

Flyers never wanted Duchene, and wanted people to know that. My service rep totally buried him when we talked after that season, and it wasn’t even like I talked him up, we were just talking about guys. Very weird, I had never heard that.

Should've signed him instead of Hayes. Would've been a much better fit at the time with Couturier and Giroux and Voracek.

Only took him 2 games. Cutter is at 16 and counting.

I wasn't even his biggest fan but nothing screams that was the perfect trade-back draft when Cutter goes 5th overall and Lekkerimäki goes ten picks later all because Cutter was 6'2 and could fake as a center. Lekkerimäki had every bit the shot, if not a better one and a little more self creation.

Kemell went 17th. Kulich 28th. As similar types.

I tried telling people cutter was not good enough to be a top 5 pick lol he's stronger than his college peers and has a good shot, but was too much of a floater and has terrible hockey iq, especially on the defensive side
