Fabbro on waivers - worth claiming?
Honestly, yes.

Doubt Briere bothers watching the waiver wire, though.

I fully expect he'll be claimed before we get the chance to, but I'd like to pick him up, because that's another competent enough RD to help justify trading Risto.

There are only a few teams ahead of the Flyers in the waiver priority list and one is Nashville...

Smart asset management to claim him. Play him on second pair and flip him at the deadline 50% retained for a second maybe more if he plays better.

Apparently Sandstrom accidentally gave him a season ending injury last year, so this move was premeditated as hell. They should literally throw a book a Harpur.
Thanks, SbA. I subsequently saw this video. That is next-level bitter to believe Sandstrom not only tripped him on purpose but had the arm strength to do so. It is kicking the table leg that stubbed your toe.

Unless you think Fabbro is the next Forsling, we really don't need another 3rd pair D-man, we have plenty of candidates for that role in LHV.

And yet we signed Johnson.

Fabbro is also a fine #4 on a one year deal who you could flip for a pick at the trade deadline.

But that's the kind of move a rebuilding team makes.

We signed Johnson to sit on the bench.
Fabbro is a not a fine #4, if he was, he wouldn't have been waived by a bad team.
He was a 3rd pair guy the last couple years before they demoted him this season.
I'm sure Preds tried to move him for a ham sandwich and got no takers.
Unless he has a miraculous turnaround, I doubt he'd fetch more than Zamula.

Secretly have liked him going back to early Colorado days.

Think his health has stabilized that I’d be comfortable making an offer.

If Byram is available, I’d like to explore that. Depends on his next demands of course - but I do think there is more there. On the Flyers development wheel? Who knows.

I'd rather Fabbro play Johnson's role than Johnson, especially seeing as Johnson has already played 10/15 games over the many suitable candidates you're citing in LHV (and I don't know who you are considering that to be honestly).

And as far as flipping, even if he is a 5RD, you're going to get someone giving a 3rd or 4th at worst at 50% retention.

Just feels like a missed opportunity to get a little extra value in the margins.

The argument that the Flyers already have too many X-men but they could just have waived Johnson

You're definitely an optimist.

Your Risto trade prognostications would put you under a similar label.

The guy got a 4 game suspension for essentially premeditated assault. It's shit like that why pro hockey remains a niche backwater in the American sporting landscape. The AHL is an embarrassing third rate bullshit goon league.
