Briere learned the trade under Charles "Molasses " Fletcher, what do we expect?
That’s not how this works. Tanev was always going to move first as long as the Flames didn’t take it to the deadline. He was never going to get more for Walker otherwise, which assumes he would all which was never likely either, unless another suitor got desperate and wasn’t waiting and/or Briere got more creative, such as perhaps moving Seeler with him as a pair.

I’m totally okay with not doing the deal with Dallas if this is what they were offering. Walker will be half the cap hit, and the Flyers can eat salary and other stuff, which Calgary cannot do. So, I don’t think this is necessarily the value ceiling.

And that’s a Walker trade partner down.
I look at it more as “if that’s the return for Tanev, I’m glad we were in no hurry.”

2nd + conditional 3rd + a d prospect that looks like a lefty Helge Grans. Whole mess of “meh”… especially considering how this draft drops off after the teens / 20.

If I had to pick a trade where perhaps we would’ve been better off setting the market, it’s what the Canadians got for Monahan. Would’ve been really happy to get that for Laughton. Of course, it’s possible the Jets just preferred the guy trending up / having a good season instead of the guy with a longer proven track record

Tanev is playing less than 20 minutes per game. Dallas shouldn't have offered more than a 3rd

Yeah Return on Walker isn't gonna be great...gotta hope that one of the teams that wants both Seeler and Walker offers that first your looking for

i'm really doubtful that a Walker+Seeler trade is happening. they clearly wanna take a few swigs of stupid juice from their flask and re-sign Seeler, so right now we should all be hoping that a team has interest in Laughton+Walker. that's your best chance at the best return possible.

I said the same thing. I’m just stating the fact that Dallas was in the Walker conversation, and that’s one trade partner ejected. That’s not even necessarily a negative when the same teams were likely inquiring about Tanev and Walker.

Maybe they just view Tanev as a better player.
I’d find it hard to believe a professional scout who watched them both play this year would view Tanev as a better player. Anything is possible I guess, but to me the best thing Tanev had going for him is name recognition and his play in prior seasons. Which I’d find concerning when he’s 34.

Tanev is more like a right shot seeler anyway in terms of play style.
