It's not easy to be the clearly most dysfunctional team in the NHL. The pervasive old boys club means merit is in short supply and recycling of failures is maxed out. Usually, there's a bottom tier of a few teams who take turns being the worst.

But yeah, CBJ is really managing to stand out on their own. Good for them

Did anyone see how the Hawks handled Kane's return to Chicago?

Meanwhile Giroux didn't even get a tweet for his 100th point

They got so many top players they selected deeper in the draft yet it feels like no one talks about them. Can't really think of any team I would put above them when it comes to scouting.

Its fairly simple. They dont draft for need. They prioritize puck skills and skating. They dont fall in love with recent small sample sizes like the WJC.

Looking through Cap Friendly and I noticed Marian Gaborik's contract was traded to Tampa in December 2020. This blew my mind because I remember watching him play in like 2003, how the hell did he still have a contract in 2020? Some idiot GM signed a 32 year old Gaborik to a 7 year 4.875 mil deal in 2014?!

It was Lombardi. Lombardi signed Gaborik to this deal.

Why did this team bring Dean back after LA fired him, again?

They got Gaborik pretty cheap that deadline too as a rental. I think it was like a second rounder & Matt Frattin off the top of my head. So it wasn’t a big price paid but Lombardi just couldn’t walk away while he was ahead & gave Gaborik that deal coming off a big playoff run.

Edit: It was a second rounder, a conditional third rounder which hit, & Frattin.
