I think everyone of the big 4 is somewhat overpaid but in fairness, you are paying 7 for an improving Nylander while Hyman will be in decline. Imagining a 35 year old Hyman at 5.5 doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy. We have willy at the tail 3 years of his contract and he should perform at his cap hit, even if he didnt in the first 3.
As much as I like Hyman I’m thinking 5x 4.5 or 4.25 x 6 at max.

If he wants 5 + million I’m just not interested at that point even if he’s worth it for the first couple years.

It's not so much letting Hyman go because the price to retain him will be too much and not worth it.

It's who they will bring in to replace his role. It's not like the team has anyone, particularly younger and cheaper, who will fill the role. And to obtain one in the market will require a longer contract and an overpayment -- similar to that it would to keep Hyman.

I don't know, if we move on, I'm pretty sure I'll still see people posting line combos on this site.

Do you really think that this team is on the upswing?

If so. Please explain how.

they have 3 elite kids who are like under 25? They have solid prospects in the pipeline. They have 3 solid defenders, I’d say great defenders and more than enough serviceable defenders in holl, dermott and Sandin. They got a at worst 40 game goalie (so a dual g) at under 2m. They can replace the backup g for pennies.

what more can you ask for? Maybe next playoffs Corey Perry won’t knee our captain and things might be different.

How about you tell us what you’d do different

you don't like people criticizing your king Dubas and Shanny plan? Thats hilarious.

Right cuz that’s what I said

At least try to twist my words better

I just want the Leafs to be good unlike some “fans” that just want management to fail.

Hyman comes from money. Rich kid from Thornhill. Apparently his family got tboned and he sued or some stupid commercial I hear on the radio. If he wants to stay he can take a cut. He doesn’t like it then he can enjoy .. Columbus? Iunno where he goes.
Not quite but his dad is a Billionaire who at one point owned more than 90 teams in the GTHL and still owns the Markham Knights plus one of the top prospect scouting services called ISS International Scouting Services , he made a ton of money and spends a lot of it on hockey , good on him , Zach owns an ESports org and has published 4 best selling childrens books , might be 5 or 6 by now because he supposedly had 2 in the pipeline last winter , so hockey is not his sole source of income .

Not even remotely comparable players.

I wouldn’t pay Hyman half of what Nylander gets.

And before the grit, toughness and effort people come out, Nylander was miles better than Hyman when it mattered most.
Only if your basing the “mattered most” on this season’s choke off.....

Ya cause you dunno what regression means.

Pittsburgh lost to the 22nd place Habs last year?

Pittsburg had also won 3 Cups with Crosby and Malkin...and these guys are now in their 30's...Malkin is freakin' 34 years old...and Crosby is 33.

how have they regressed when they won a division for the first time in 20 years? 112 points over 82 games pro rated

They were the only team in the NHL that didn't face a Top 10 team for the entire 56 game season. What an accomplishment.

Dubas tried to play hardball with Nylander but ended up blinking in that game of chicken. I think after that he resolved to cater to his stars and cut corners elsewhere.

That and Matthews/Marner deciding to re-write the RFA rulebook in the aftermath of the Tavares signing has really f'd us badly. The flat cap was just the final kick in the ass.

Somewhere
He'll be missed. There isn't a single player on the Leafs currently that brings what Hyman does.

I've been saying for months now Hyman gets at minimum 5mil aav as a UFA.

Lol we could’ve won the series if Hyman had any finishing ability.

Willy was the only top 6 forward to come to play every game (including Hyman who was pretty damn bad).

It’s only a “choke off” cuz Willy came to play and Hyman didn’t.

Nylander come from a wealthy family, did anyone see him take less?
Nylander came from NHL contract money earned by a father who played for the name on the back and the paycheck in his wallet , his dad is his mentor and he is exactly the same so I doubt anyone expected him to take less , his brother was already showing the same attitude when he got hurt in Buffalo , it will be real interesting to see how his negotiations with Chicago go . His ELC got the first 2 years slid so it lasted 5 years and just ended so he's RFA on LTIR , wonder if he holds out lol.

Not at all what I said. I don’t care who management is, I have no control over that. So whoever it is, I’m gonna hope they do well. That’s what fans do.

I saw the players fail. Management can only be blamed for so long, certain players don’t come to play when it matters.

I agree.
Pretty sure the leafs could pick up Blake Coleman for cheaper than 5. Great swiss army knife player.

I am sure that if the Leafs still can't make it out of the 1st round when they're both that old you'd still make excuses for them. (Assuming they're both still here)

Well Edmonton was 11th. Also flip side is every division has 2 teams worse than the worst team in the North, with 1 division having 3. So top heavy teams beat up on the shitty bottom ones. Congrats?
