Without cheating on hockeyref or such sites, who are the Wild draft picks with the most NHL games played?

gimme your top 6 or 7 - just spit em out and hit "post reply." I was enlightened after looking myself.

BONUS: All time +/- leader for Wild draft picks?

Like... all time?

Out of order:
Marian Gaborik
Nick Schultz
Mikko Koivu
Brent Burns
Those were the easy ones...

I'll add to that:
Jonas Brodin, seeing as he was like 19 when he started.
Matt Dumba
Mikael Granlund

All-time +/- leader.... Derek Boogaard. I just remember him leading in it one year, but Zucker's probably a better guess. Still, I'm going with Boogaard.

How did I do?

You did great - not a cheater! Got the low hanging fruit for the games played. Not right for +/-.

I’d greatly enjoy a giant hole so we can draft 1oa next year :)
Really?
Then it would be wise to move Kaprizov for future talent, come TDL. His NMC doesn't kick in, until summer of 24
😄

Edit OK, See their being taken into account that he could be forced to stay in Russia for a year. That would change the situation.
Fortunately it looks like his of the hook in his homeland.

Yeah being bad for one year is basing it on Kap not being allowed to play.

I'll also say Gaborik, Schultz, Koivu & Burns as the clear ones. Then I'll put Leddy, Granlund & Brodin.

Taking a change at Leddy for +/-!

The top 4 are Burns 1251, Schultz 1069, then Gaborik and Koivu tied at 1035.

Leddy is 6th, Brodin 8th, Granlund 9th.

Any guess on #5? #7.

Also, #10 is a surprise: Benoit Pouliot!

All time +/- leader is also something of a surprise.

Haula seems like a good guess.

+/- I’ll say Dumba cause that would surprise me

Hasn't Clutterbuck been around forever? I'll guess him for one of the last spots.

Bravo - CC is #5 with 933. and #7 is Scandella w/699.
Clutterbuck and Leddy both have a good shot at hitting 1000 games played.

And the all-time +/- leader is ... Gaborik. +95
Next closest in Koivu at +68, then Brodin at +58.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Marian Gaborik, proof that the best defense is outscoring your problems.

Early, he was terrible defensively, later he was decent (not great), even played quite a bit of PK which gave the PK some counter punch ability.
That used to be a tactic with many teams in the 90's. They would purposefully put like Pavel Bure on the PK knowing the PP team was going to go full tilt for offensive zone time. Having Bure out made the opposing team think twice about their PP strategy since if Bure got loose with it (cherry picking) then it was going to be automatic goal. While they could push in on basically a 5-3 1/2 PP, it may not have worked effectively if it was a solid goaltender and the other 3 players out there were extremely defensively-minded.

So if we ran Ek with Brodin and Spurgeon and let Kap sit up high in the middle we could possibly change how other PP units play us?

I'm hoping in 2023-2024 we see:

Kaprizov - Hartman - Yurov
Duhaime - Eriksson-Ek - Foligno
Beckman - Rossi - Boldy
Dewar - FA - FA

Middleton - Spurgeon
Brodin - Faber
O'Rourke - Addison
Goligoski

Fleury
Wallstedt

Where do you see Greenway going? Duhaime on the Ek line is a disaster. Defense looks nice and goal-tending could be nice if Wallestedt can play meaningful rotation minutes.

I think I would rather do:

Kap - Hartman - Boldy
Greenway - Ek - Foligno
Beckman - Rossi - Yurov or Rossi - Gaudreau - Yurov

Trade Greenway to get space. I'm hoping Duhaime takes another step.

Do we need space if Dumba/Zucc are gone? Duhaime has offensive production so bad you'd have to almost try to not score for that long with as much NHL ice time. He had basically the NHL version of Yurov's stats but Yurov was playing 20 seconds per game.

I can't imagine we have cap issues with Hartman's contract + Rossi/Beckman/Yurov/Boldy on rookie contracts + Middleton's contract being reasonable + Addison/O'Rourke/Faber on rookie contracts and almost no money tied up into 2 goalie spots.

I was going for a Fiala/Boldy type effect with Yurov/Rossi and trying to maximize Hartman as a 60 point offensive player versus a 35-40 point middle 6 center/winner playing without high-level offensive talent.
I wonder what his contract demands will be for that season. I’d hope to have a Rossi/Kap duo turned into a mcdavid/Drai where they both explode for 100.

Zucc isn't going anywhere, and it would also make the team worse.
Instead be prepared for an extension.
