It would mean the actual team is trash if they crash and burn for bottom-5 record. If that happens I see the tank becoming the norm for the next several years.

I have a suspicion that Kaprizov (and Fiala to a lesser extent) covered up a lot of warts. Both those guys gone, and we have a bottom 10 offense, at best, and our defense/goaltending still isn't anything to write home about.

I have the same feeling. I don't like this feeling either. The last time I had it was when Buffalo let Briere and Drury walk and it was the beginning of the end for them.

If Kap misses this season and Rossi doesn’t make a huge leap yet, this team could easily fall into a bottom 5 record. Zucc without Kap is nowhere near as good. Boldy would get focused. Hartman would get much worse. We would be very one dimensional and easy to defend. Then we come back the following year with Kap and possibly bedard and a more mature Rossi and other prospects. It could easily be a one year thing.

Bedard doesn't interest me much, and I don't think he'll have much of an impact for at least a couple of seasons. Hughes or Point is what I see with him; not a Matthews, McDavid, or an Eichel.

If everything doesn't go right in you're scenario it becomes real easy for MN to become sellers at the TDL for the 2nd straight year. I don't count on a 31yo Foligno, a 34yo Spurgeon, a 36yo Zucc, and a 38yo Goli all having the same quality of season they all had this last year. It's a lot of wear and tear for guys that are already injury prone.

Well that’s a scorcher of a take.

When were we sellers at the TDL?

They would be next season if they are going to be a bottom-5 team in the league.
Well for one, I forgot to reply to it but your point of the old boys not having the same year as last year helps us hit bottom 5 without Kap on the team. Then trading that old age at the TDL gives us plenty of ammo to turn this around real fast and not take years considering we already have star power in Kap we just need a better supporting cast and the C we draft top 5 sure does that. Might not be immediate but sooner than later.

/shrug I like Dvorsky and Fantilli (Michigan just keeps racking up the top tier prospects) better.

Genuine curiosity, what about these 2 make you like them over Bedard? You are a far greater draft/prospect mind than me. Given all the records Bedard has broken, and the past success of the very few CHL players that were granted Exceptional Status, he seems like he has a real chance to be a bonafide star.

If Kaprizov can't leave Russia...

Zuccarello-Hartman-Boldy

I think this line can do some damage, and Zucc will be a good mentor for Boldy.

Yes, Guerin....you are a bit of a fool. That pitch is a stretch. The Wild are one gigantic question mark at the moment.

An excerpt from the article....
In the past few weeks, Kevin Fiala, who scored a career-best 85 points last season, was traded to the Los Angeles Kings for two futures. There’s suddenly a legitimate fear that Kirill Kaprizov may have difficulty getting back to the United States later this summer (Guerin had no further clarity Thursday after Wednesday’s alarming news reports). The Wild have three years of a cap squeeze due to $12.7 million, $14.7 million and $14.7 million of buyout charges for cutting loose Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. Left wing Jordan Greenway and defenseman Jon Merrill had offseason surgeries and may not be ready for the start of the season.

Asked what his pitch has been to Fleury in an attempt to persuade him that he has a better chance of winning in Minnesota than elsewhere, Guerin, who managed a franchise-best 113-point team last season, said Thursday, “We’re bringing back the same team outside of Kevin. So, we can get better than we were last year. We didn’t win (in the playoffs) last year, but we had a hell of a year. Why not? Why can’t we win? Hey, look, maybe I’m a fool, but that’s just the way I think. I think he can be a big part of that.”

I've never thought the chances of Fleury extending here were high, and I can't say I'm disappointed.

In my mind, he was just a rental. Kinda surprised how hard BG is going after him. But if I were the guy, I would have serious reservations about re-signing with a club who is facing the potential of losing a freaking boatload of their offense while also dealing with serious cap problems.
