I’m not one to query historical stats, nor do I know the resources to do so… but I’d like to know how many second-season players in NHL history finished top-5 in league scoring. Has to be a pretty exclusive list.

I mean it's definitely worth noting that most players who end up top 5 in scoring at some point during their career don't wait until they're already almost 24 to see NHL ice. So yeah, it's not a long list, and if Kaprizov had come over at 18-21 like most players of that caliber do, he probably wouldn't be on the list either.

McDavid
Crosby
Kaprizov
Stamkos
Forsberg
Selanne (did it his first year, not the second, was 22)
Recchi (if you don't count his actual first season when he played only 15 games)
Rob Brown
Robitaille (tied for 5th)
Lemieux
Barry Pederson (tied for 5th, again have to not count his first season where he played 9 games)
Gretzky
Peter Stastny (25)

That's going back to 1980-81. If anyone wants to go back further, feel free.

In one of those pointless “what if” scenarios where a hypothetical time machine is involved… I wonder had Kaprizov left the KHL earlier if he would’ve put up similar numbers.
And does it speak more to Kaprizov’s ability as a player or the KHL’s quality of competition as a “development” league?

If I had to say… it’s more reflective of Kaprizov (likely obvious statement) given his being the only Russian / KHL transfer on the list.

And then to take it a step further… what does it say to all of his KHL comparisons in the seasons he was there? Certainly he’s outperformed them so far.

A truly special player we have… and pointless musings here nonetheless…

I'm extremely confident he'd be at this point at this time. It just would've been a bit longer of an evolution towards it.

What age would he have been if he had not signed that second KHL contract?

This doesnt pertain to the Wild so feel free to delete or move it somewhere it belongs but its more of a question about another squad

Im genuinely curious where does all this arrogance come from for Avs fans? They act like their current roster is a dynasty or something (they obviously havent even won a cup yet) and yet theyve achieved nothing but 1st and 2nd round exits just like the Wild, have they always been like this or has it come more recently with their regular season success over the past few years

I guess when you adopt a dynasty you get stuck in your ways. They started with Joe Sakic we started with Stacy Roast.

I'm guessing he means that when the Quebec Nordiques moved to Colorado they were already established. Their fans never went through the growing pains of an expansion team. And in their 1st year in Colorado, they won the Stanely Cup.
Ahh never knew they moved to Colorado good to know and thanks for the info

Have they always been sorta big headed or is it more recently? Im not even trying troll them at all just curious I would get it a bit if they were TB after winning B2B cups but they havent done anything in recent years that the Wild have not

They were gifted a SC ready team with a need for a goalie. Later on, Patrick Roy got the doors blown off him by the Red Wings while he was the Habs goalie. (that was a fun game to watch, as I've always hated the guy and was huge Wings fan at the time). So, he asked for a trade and they traded him to the Avs. Instant cup win. So, they have this sense of entitlement because they won the cup right away. Denver Colorado is a wonderful and beautiful place, unfortunately it's full of Avalanche fans and a large majority of them are excrement. And yes, they have been like that for 25+ years.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. Really cool to have the top 3 lines in the top 10.

I think in this case the 400 TOI filter might just be a bit too strict since there are only 20 lines with that much ice time together.

Fiala line is 19th and Kaprizov line is 21 if you set it at 200+ TOI. GREEF line is still 1st obviously.

Don't say anything at all
The new Timberwolves owners later purchasing the Wild would make it easier for both teams to one day split their home schedules between Target Center and Xcel Energy Center.

Since I believe the NHL will go to an 84-game schedule soon, this means the Wild can evenly split their 42 home games between both venues.

Meanwhile, the NBA will remain at 82 games, so the Wolves would only play 40 of their home games between the venues, 20 at each one. The 41st game would be at US Bank Stadium, against a popular opponent, with a seating layout similar to when the Final Four was held there.

Wait, why on earth would they want to split venues?

Craig L, won't sell and no reason in hell for the Wild to play at Target Center.

Yeah, I went with an ex to a Tool show at the Target Center and it was just a huge mess of noise. Couldn't even tell which songs they were playing.

I was at that show and almost got thrown out for responding to a text message from my son. Evidently they had a no-phone policy that I wasn't aware of. :DD

Huh, I wonder if that was Tool that didn't want phones out, or if it's a venue rule. Either way, glad they didn't boot you in the end!
