They're not close and there's three years of cap hell. This team won't be a serious contender for years, and there's basically zero shot Kaprizov signs another contract here. I feel like I'm just kinda done seriously following this team. I don't want to be, but there's no hope here IMO.

I've been done seriously following this team for a few years. I still watch about half the games. I watch the recaps/goals of the games I miss, and that is fun.

umm...you had hope to begin with? This season was fun but the playoffs are a different beast.

This is exactly where I was last summer. It's why I didn't understand the "go for it this year" mentality.

I don't mind the go for it mentality this season. They might not have another chance with Kaprizov on the team.

I didn't think they had a chance this season

Yup, that's why it made sense to me. And honestly, I think BG played the deadline well. They didn't really give up much in a "go for it" attempt.

5 overtimes, but yes. ;)

Nope, correction. That was the last year at the Civic Center... didn't move to the Target Center until the following year.

Just doesn't look like classic Civic Center since the clear boards were replaced with traditional ones when the Moose played at the Civic Center from 94-96.
I think I remember that game... Wasn't the Duluth east star player like spehar or something? If I remember right he played for the gophers after that

I’d greatly enjoy the greef line being broken up a getting a coach who tries to make Kaprizov our team identity rather than a checking line.

Edit: actually enjoyed dewar quite a bit he can stay also.
Dewar being in the whole series instead of DLo could have honestly had some type of impact in this series. DLo just made that 4th line useless to play.

If they wanted to go for it, they should’ve shot a lot f***ing higher than Fleury, Middleton, and DLo.

I posted this in the series thread, but thought to put it here too since it's this kind of brilliant coaching that we get to look forward to.

Uffdah. Talbot’s wife replied to Russo on Twitter regarding Evason’s decision. I get it but so cringy to have your spouse call out your coach. 😬

I was going to rank the players by their contracts. As I was going though the team I realized all but 3 of them met or exceeded what their AAV was for the season.

The 3 (imo) that didn't live up to their contracts are:
1. Goli @ $5m/yr. He started out hot then became a 6/7 d-man.
2. Dumba @ $6m/yr. His offense is lacking and injuries took their toll.
3, Spurgeon @ $7.5m/yr. Injuries hurt his season. His usage was much closer to a sheltered, bottom pair, PP specialist; not a top-pair d-man.

I remember at the beginning of the season, Wild weren't predicted to do too much let alone make the playoffs. One never knows what will happen. Sure, the playoffs didn't go the way we would've liked but damn, we saw some pretty good hockey that we're not used to seeing and it was a year to remember. We get some good draft picks coming up in the predicted bad years and we will be ready to roll again when the cap hell is over.

Kaprizov is a game changer. Can't believe basically every team passed on him in the draft.

He will be even better next year, so wouldn't be surprised if we post season bound again.

Do you guys think gaudreau can build on this year's offense and get even more production next season or would most see this season as a fluke?

Freddy G is ideally a 2-way 4C; that's where his skill level is. He was playing with 2 wingers that were way above his skill level last season and he benefited greatly from that.

I don's see his wingers being better next season, so his point totals will drop.

I know it's not realistic, I know guys have NMC/NTC, I'm neither asking nor advocating for it, but here is my list of players that need to be back next season:

Kaprizov
Boldy
Brodin
Ek

The rest can stay or go, doesn't matter much to me
These are the only players that showed up for the tournament and are the only clutch players. For a team that was keeping their " line chemistry" intact, they sure appeared disjointed.
Fluery/Talbot were better when they were competing. Once Fleury got the net it's like everyone quit playing. I'd be so p****d if I were Cam.
Late game comebacks along with a compressed schedule down the stretch maybe led to fatigue, penalties and injuries. That's the only way I can understand game 4.

Kap (9m) - Hartman (1.7m) - Zucc (6m)
Greenway (3m) - Ek (5.25m) - Foligno (3.1m)
Boldy (880k) - Gaudreau (1.2m) - Jost (2m)
Duhaime (750k) - Shaw (750k) - Cramarossa(750k): Dewar is unsigned so i didnt add him yet but obviously would take him over all 3 of the 4th liners mentioned.
13th forward ??

Brodin (6m) - Dumba (6m)
Goligoski (2m) - Spurgeon (7.575m)
Kulikov (2.25m) - Merril (1.2m)
Addison (795k)

Talbot (3.666m)
backup ??

this roster leaves us with 5.915 M to sign a backup and a 13th forward.

can sign Dewar to 1m-1.5m and have plenty of cap for Fleury if that is the route we choose.

Middleton I would like to resign however that would require Kulikov to be traded for a 3rd(?) which i am all for.

this is by no means a sexy roster but this is what im expecting to see going into next season.
