Boldy, too. OTOH, Kap will be at home sitting on the couch with his feet up.:thumbu:
So with the exception of Kap, all of the crucial players are going to be there. I hope they coast like it's the damn All-Star game. It's not the Olympics, so why have it mid-season when teams are in the middle of a playoff race? Guys can get hurt and miss the most important time of the year for their clubs. It's beyond stupid.

I'm surprised the board of governors has even allowed it. Must be pretty damn important to the players for them to do so.

I for one am very excited for the 4 nations and glad our guys were chosen to represent their countries. Not only a massive honor for them, but each of these guys put in a ton of work to get to that level and glad they were recognized for it. They won’t be coasting, once that national jersey is on, it’s serious stuff and none of these guys even know how to take it easy. It’s been so long since we have had a competition with this much talent facing off against each other, as a fan of the sport, this should be must see stuff IMO.

I would like to serve up a nice plate of crow to the people who were acting like Spurgeon's contract is a boat anchor:

"The return of Jared Spurgeon, who missed all but 16 games because of injury last season, is having a massive impact. Spurgeon’s 1.57 expected goals against per hour rate at five-on-five ranks No. 1 among all NHL defensemen who’ve played at least 150 minutes this season."

I believe he will be traded this offseason. He’s got a 10 Team NTC, and is playing well enough that he should be able to get offloaded to a team in win now mode. I think that they’re even giving him more opportunity to try and prop up his value.

A driving reason why they brought in Jiricek is to slide him into that 2/3RD role next season. The is going to be to move him, give Kaprizov the C, make Kaprizov the highest paid player in league history, promise jersey retirement, keys to the city, etc.

They’ll take whatever’s left over to go sign someone other guys.

I also believe that, if they can’t get Kaprizov signed this summer, they will go after Marner/Rantenen as an insurance option and then keep trying to get something done with Kaprizov throughout the season.

Continuing, if we get rid of spurge, the consent even have to go up that much for us to pull something like this off. Again, next year projections are 95-97M, 2 years from now upwards of 110M. I went with 105 to be conservative, and that’s still more than enough for this team:

Has Rantanen been playing center for Colorado? I would love that dude here. He is what we hope Boldy turns out to be.

I hope Guerin can jump the gun and offer $15M/year to Kap as the highest paid guy in the league.

I know you just changed your name recently, but surely you have not forgotten Buium? :D

I don't understand the panic over losing Kaprizov. There's been no talk of him being unhappy here and we currently have the best record in the league.

We also have cap space to make him one of the highest paid players in the league. He hasn't earned the top salary in the league, so I hope we don't pay him that.

You people are acting like a needy guy who is afraid his girlfriend is going to find someone better. Sad, really.

In the other sports, as long as you're the next guy up, you've earned it. Not sure why hockey fans think so differently.

Uhhhhh, which sports work like that? Basketball players have maximum salaries they can earn with slight multipliers for merit-based accomplishments. Baseball doesn't work that way, the two highest paid players just won MVP and had historic seasons, and the two highest paid pitchers were the best in the league when they signed their deals too. Timing is a factor in football, but looking at the top paid QBs and WRs, the top paid guys are the best at their position.

Kaprizov is not the best player in the NHL. Matthews, MacKinnon and McDavid could all make a case IMO. Draisaitl not really but his deal will be coming after two years of cap increases. Kaprizov deserves to be paid up there with those guys but falling all over yourself to pay him 20% more than the top 3 players in the league is just stupid.

Everybody wants Kaprizov to be on an awesome contract, but are you really going to risk losing him over $2M (let's say $14M vs. $16M) if you're also suspecting the cap of going up a ton as well? I have my sincere doubts that Guerin/Leipold are will to do that.
