Kaprizov could very likely be second in points scored in franchise history by the end of the season. 68 points behind Gaborik right now.

It seems about as high as Jiricek's chance of being better than Spurgeon by next season to me.
Don’t think Jiricek has to be as good as Spurgeon for it to make sense to get off of an expensive aging asset as we enter our window, personally.

The key there is that we're entering the window, not outside of it and rebuilding, so if he's significantly better than his replacement I think it's still money wisely spent. Of course, that's assuming he continues to play at a fairly high level and isn't injured all season again.

The aging part doesn't worry me too much, since he's only got 2 more seasons after this.

Everybody wants Kaprizov to be on an awesome contract, but are you really going to risk losing him over $2M (let's say $14M vs. $16M) if you're also suspecting the cap of going up a ton as well? I have my sincere doubts that Guerin/Leipold are will to do that.
And I don't think Kirill's agent is going to say "make kirill the highest paid player in the league by $2M or he's leaving next summer"

Depends on if Jiricek shows he can be a top 4 dman or not.
I truly don't really think that matters.

Just an FYI, but McDavid's contract is up the same summer, so this likely won't be true at $16M anyway.

For a new poster you seem to be very opinionated. Why not just hang around a bit and get the lay of the land before you start trading our captain, and awarding 27M/yr to Kaprizov?

And why do you have a picture of Zeev Buium as your avatar?

Anyone have thoughts on the Brock Nelson rumor? I’d post it here but I post using my phone and copy/paste sucks.

F’n new guy stirring the pot.

Is it just that we're interested in him or was there a potential value/return tied to it?

In principle I'm not against being interested, but he's not a guy I'd give up a lot for. We already gave up the 1st for Jiricek, I really wouldn't give up next years 1st for Nelson as well.

But if it's something like a 2nd+prospect, I'd be open to it depending on the prospect. I really don't like giving up much of value for pure rentals, it almost never works out.

Just saw the main board thread, the idea that a 1st or any of the top six prospects (Yurov, Buium, Wallstedt, Jiricek, Heidt, Ohgren) would be included is an immediate no for me. A rental 50 point player isn't worth any of those.

That was my thought as well and I don't see why the Islanders would settle for less.

Unless you have very specific plans for Spurgeon's money, you mix and match Faber/Middleton/Buium/Spurgeon/Brodin/Jiricek in any way you wish for 2 years (as long as Buium and Jiricek are close to what we're hoping) and you run out the best defensive unit in the league.

This is what I am talking about, let's build a deep and scary team. No reason to trade away things when something new might come along. Like trading rossi because yurov might be an nhl center someday, thankfully that talk seems to have passed.

Good job wild.

The day wild would win the cup would be above all of the big victories of the recent past. Could it happen this year? Absolutely not! But it could be close.
