Good lord with this team and the first round pummelings. Like it's baked into the team culture or something. Drag the sorriest ass lineup they can barely over the finish line just to get blind folded and shot by the Avalanche.

Not saying you’re wrong, but the new top line + Rossi/Faber are too much fun to watch to for me to be pro-tank. Feels like a win-win.

Legit dont understand people who lose sight of the fact this is entertainment. Even if you think the GM is a mungo who does all the wrong things you should be hoping it all works out anyway right?

Otherwise what are you doing - adding another thing in your life to grumble about? Makes no sense lol.

EDIT: Btw. I'm sure all grumblers are wonderful if confused people.

There's an old saying in the Navy "A bitching sailor is a happy sailor." People (in general) enjoy grumbling. Maybe enjoy isn't the proper word, but it does make them fell better about things.

Really, the team could go 98-0, winning every game 5-2, and there would still be grumbling. They still let in goals, missed shots, etc, so things could be better.

There’s a saying in the mining world

What two things do miners hate the most?……change and the way things were.

I'd take that bet.

This is legitimately an argument against trying to improve things that aren't directly in your control.

There is a reason the "grumblers" that stop buying tickets to hockey games impact the results. Money talks...BS walks. You can thank the grumblers for most every positive change that has occurred on the ice.

Im sure you are a wonderful if confused person.

When grumblers think they are the reason positive changes are made. Lol… I’m pretty sure teams can objectively look at what needs to improve without the help of the miserable couch potatoes.
What incentive does a team have to endure some tough years to really improve when the Pejorative Slured fans fill the building for their overpriced dose of mediocre wild hockey no matter how pathetic the on ice product gets. When you can convince that pile of mouth breathing idiots that you have a legitimate contender no matter how bad they are then you’ve won the game from a business perspective.

This is SUCH a bad take.

This is SUCH a bad take.
My eyes glazed over reading it.

We’ve made the playoffs 10 of the last 11 years. We somehow found a super star in the 5th round. Our prospect pool appears to be really strong and the prize prospects are nearing the NHL. We have plenty of young ish NHL players. I don’t consider any of our current player contracts to be outrageous outside of maybe Foligno. I think we are pretty well set up to be a contender in 1.5 seasons. And before anyone chimes in with the ridiculous “that’s why they should get a top 5 pick this year!” It’s not like you can just sit Kaprizov, Boldy, Faber, Rossi, etc to collect your losses. That would surely piss the fanbase off and move in the direction of HC/GM firing, which is exactly why the HC/GM wouldn’t do it.

This team isn’t bad enough to get a top 5 pick. We are about to reach that point where our top prospects (Yurov, Wallstedt, Ohgren, etc) make the jump while still having a good middle and older core for their respective roles.

All it takes is one breakthrough year for everything to be different.

Ahhh - so you are of the opinion that a franchise will simply go out and make changes/spend more money because they can recognize a change is needed? What inputs do you think they look at to determine that? Ticket sales? TV Viewership? Ad sales that are driven by said TV viewership?

It’s not like the Wild haven’t been spending money… They’re usually up against the cap.

Since you seem to know more than everybody else, how should the Wild spend more money?

Im not really sure what you're on about. I was responding to the comment that "grumblers" don't have an impact on a franchises decisions.

Franchise decisions are driven by the same thing as every other business. Money. If the product they are icing is impacting revenue - they make changes. Losing impacts revenue....because it drives the "grumblers" away, they spend less money, buy fewer tickets and merch etc.

If Craig Leopold could be at the cap floor every year with a sub .500 team and still sell out the stadium and TV advertisement's - he would do it in a heartbeat.

This is very true, and why I've said in the past that if we're winning because of these guys (add JEE and Gus), it is acceptable, if it's the same old 1st round exit. If it's guys like Foligno, Gaudreau, (to a certain extent) Hartman and Johansson poking in goals or Fleury making 48 saves to win, then it would become a little annoying. It's nice that it's the former.

I need to see Kaprizov with a reasonable contract extension, and Wallstedt and Yurov impressing me like Boldy and Faber do before I even think about this team being a potential contender. Long way to go and a lot of moving parts that could go sideways. I remember thinking this team could be a contender with the Suter/Parise signings, and with Brodin, Dumba, Granlund, Nino, Coyle, Zucker, Hackett and Kuemper all hitting their potential, I'm not going to make that same mistake twice.

You clearly don't understand business so I'll bid you adieu.

I think our owner wants to win and trusts our GM to figure out how to do that.

Let me counter this, do you think the Fiala trade was caused by “grumblers”? How about the Parise/Suter buyouts? I don’t think some couch potatoes caused those moves.

I also don’t think you know what a “grumbler” is. Many on this board can recognize areas of improvement and ways to go about getting that. There are only a select few on here that I would call “grumblers”

Leipold wants to watch/own a winning sports team. He's an entertainment business guy that wants to be entertained. He lost a lot of money as the Preds owner doing this. MN is an easier hockey market than NSH was (back then at least) to break even/profit, for sure.

He's not a spend thrift by any means, unlike the previous Wild owner. The big UFA contracts, the high cost buyouts (Vanek, Parise, Suter) and fired coaches (Yeo, BB, Evason) are all extra money he's spent to ice a good team. It's not the fans that dictate any of his moves, it's what he wants to see on the ice.

Edit* this should be 2 separate posts.
