Middleton would be absolutely ideal as the #3LD playing behind something like Brodin+Hanifin, and playing with a young, offensive #3RD.
There's no rule that says he can't.I read in the Prospects forum that his KHL contract doesn't officially expire until 4/30, so I'm not sure how this is going to work.

Yes, but this is a situation where he's clearly not playing there anymore and his team will be long since done before the contract ends. You mean besides the standard KHL player contract that dictates when the player can't sign with another team/league until May 1st (IIRC)? Marat K (not the NHL team) can buyout his contract
Yes the memo of understanding (to honor the other league's contracts) between the NHL/KHL was suspended after the Ukraine invasion, but both leagues have dealt like it was still intact.

You really think the KHL is going to care?

The KHL didn't arrest anyone. They have every other year. They arrested Fedotov a couple of years ago (avoiding military service). Then voided his NHL contract after he signed a new one with CSKA.
We've been through all this with signing Kaprizov years ago.
Meh. Addison had plenty of opportunities to show his value. Had a period of great PP numbers that did not continue and at the same time was not so good in any other dman functions. No crying over spilled milk on my end.Addison absolutely had good value before Evason and Guerin tanked him hard with the press box because he would jam his round self in a square hole
You must be new here? Why are people crying about a guy with 7 whole points in 29 games since he was moved? Oh, and he's another -14 since as well...
If the RHD is a liability every moment he's on the ice and the LHD is not, you already come out ahead with the LHD.i have always been on team addison, explain to me how declan chisholm a LHD at league minimum is better than addison a RHD at league minimum????? i will always count this as a billy fail!
Also many defensemen play on their opposite side.If the RHD is a liability every moment he's on the ice and the LHD is not, you already come out ahead with the LHD.
Handedness means nothing if you can't play.
Also many defensemen play on their opposite side.
There’s bad at defense and then there is horrible at defense and then there is Calen Addison.i have always been on team addison, explain to me how declan chisholm a LHD at league minimum is better than addison a RHD at league minimum????? i will always count this as a billy fail!
To add:Calen Addison RHD for the San Jose Sharks
Even Strength Corsi For % is 42.2 (below 50 means the other team is controlling play). Only (6) players on the team who've played more than (10) games are worse (F Granlund, D Vlasic, D Okhotyuk, D Benning, F Sturm, F Kunin)
Relative CF % (team corsi with him vs without him) is -1.1 (9 players on the team with more than 10 games are worse)
Addison has the highest offensive zone start percentage on the team at 53.6%
(this shouldnt be news to Wild fans he was similarly protected on the Wild)
Expected +/- (given the quality of shots for and against while he's on the ice) is -10.4
There are (8) players on the team who've played more than 10 games who are worse but please notice every one of these players have higher defensive zone starts (addison sticks out for having numbers this poor while typically coming on the ice in the offensive zone). F Sturm (60.6% d zone starts), D Ferraro (57.6% D), D Rutta (59.3% D), F Zetterlund (56.5% D), F Granlund (57.1% D), D Burroughs (61.4% D), D Okhotyuk (58.7% D), C Kunin (59.6% D). To be fair most of the team's zone starts lean heavily toward defensive zone bc the Sharks play the game mostly in their own zone but that only highlights Addison's usage.
Anyway, all this is to say that the folks who claim Billy ruined Addison or that he's never gotten a fair shot or whatever are absolutely adorable to me lol.
Same as the Menell situation. Why are people crying about a guy with 7 whole points in 29 games since he was moved? Oh, and he's another -14 since as well...
The other issue, we have another young RHD that has put up 21pts since Addison was moved, and despite the team struggling mightily in much of that time, is only a -2 during that time while playing the toughest minutes on the team by far. There’s bad at defense and then there is horrible at defense and then there is Calen Addison.
He is pretty slick on the PP though, I’ll give him that.
The other issue with Addison was that he already had a tiny RHD ahead of him on the depth chart in Spurgeon (not to mention Goligoski & Brodin who aren’t physical at all either). The blueline was becoming the softest and easiest to play against in the NHL.
Faber had nothing to do with Addison being moved. The team wanted more size as evidenced by their immediate move to trade for Bogosian. The other issue, we have another young RHD that has put up 21pts since Addison was moved, and despite the team struggling mightily in much of that time, is only a -2 during that time while playing the toughest minutes on the team by far.
A new successful RHD had nothing to do with another not quite as new but unsuccessful RHD being moved?Faber had nothing to do with Addison being moved. The team wanted more size as evidenced by their immediate move to trade for Bogosian.
Faber had nothing to do with Addison being moved, that is correct.A new successful RHD had nothing to do with another not quite as new but unsuccessful RHD being moved?
I disagree and think Faber coming in with instant success made it all but inevitable that Addison was gone. Addison was already on thin ice prior to Faber coming in. Faber coming in right away as a top pairing caliber player was the nail in the coffin that left BG no longer feeling the need to try to salvage a player out of him.Faber had nothing to do with Addison being moved, that is correct.
Except it is not correct. The FO expected Faber to be a stud. He was always valued above Addison, ROR, Hunt, Peart etc. That's why they made him a centerpiece of the Fiala trade.Faber had nothing to do with Addison being moved, that is correct.
