Man, there are a lot of garbage articles out there. Today’s latest is in the Hockey Writers, in which Tomas Morgan says that Pat Maroon is no longer a “great skater”, and that Duhaime is a Center. Why should one pay any attention to anything that these bozos write if they don’t know the first thing about the team?

Has maroon ever been a great skater??

Are you asking 57special or the Hockey Writers?

If a player has slowed down from having no speed, does that mean he's skating backwards, now?
No, i think it's one of those trick math questions where you are always moving forward, even if you lose half your speed every year.

Few Wild players at the Twins game tonight, Foligno threw out the first pitch, he was accompanied by Faber, Middleton, Addison, Walker and...Shaw, so whatever that means for Shaw

I'm getting the feeling that they want to sign Shaw, and once he's healthy (or by December 1st) they'll try to work out how to make enough cap room for him. That or he's just willing himself to be a part of the team. The kid certainly has a track record of wanting it hard enough.

Russo has reported the Wild offered Shaw a pricy AHL deal for him to get paid while he rehabs and then he would get an NHL deal when he’s ready to return. Shaw’s camp has turned down the AHL deal as of a few weeks ago.

Did Foligno actually get it on target over the plate? He wasn't warned or tossed?

Baby steps....;)

Gaudreau - when is he expected to return?

Also, do you expect him to center one of the top 2 lines? Or more like the 3rd line?

Thanks!

A lot would have to go wrong for him to be moved back to the top six, I think. Hartman is penciled into the first line with Kaprizov as he has been the last two years, and Ek looked great between Johansson and Boldy, so I imagine they'll go back to that, leaving some kind of third line with Gaudreau, Foligno and whoever else looks good there in camp/preseason. Rossi is in the mix somewhere too. Could end up being that third guy.

He'll be somewhere in the bottom-6 and have PK duties. He might be on PP2, but I wouldn't count on that doing much.

It would take an injury to Hartman/JEE and Rossi failing to get a top-6 spot.

Gaudreau has pretty well nailed down the 3C spot, and i'm ok with that. I could see him being moved up to the 2W is MJo gets injured, but i think that makes us weaker as a team. Freddy is at his best as a good defensive C with speed, FO's, and a bit of finishing skill.

Better off playing a Beckman or Walker as an injury fill in on the W, and see how they do. Both are offensively inclined.

I am having trouble seeing where Rossi fits, if he doesn't displace Hartman. He shouldn't be playing 3C over Fred, he will never displace JEE, and i don't see him as a wing. Playing him as 4C would just be silly...I think Dewar is more suited to that role, anyway.

I see Rossi as replacing MarJo on wing. It's why I really didn't like the MarJo signing, it blocked the one place I saw Rossi fitting into the lineup.

I think they'll start Rossi at 3C and Freddy G moves to wing, same as last year.

I can understand your point here from a developmental point of view, but I'm ok with Rossi having to outbattle someone to gain a spot if the Wild are hoping to remain competitive. If he's not as good as Johansson, then it's a good thing you've got Johansson. If he is better than Johansson, Johansson will be just fine on the 3rd line, pushing Foligno or Duhaime down to the 4th.
(Though I'd actually move Hartman down if Rossi comes into camp playing that well)

I'd rather have the $2m in cap space they paid MarJo. Beckman, Rossi, Walker, and whoever else can battle for the wing spot with JEE/Boldy.

Until we know which MarJo shows up, it's hard to say. Last year he was great, and worth at least twice 2M. In his previous stop, he was worth half.

I don't get handing a spot to any of those three players. Walker was the best of them till he faded late in the year (normal for a rookie), Rossi was good but not transformative(and is a C, and always has been), while Beckman was a tier below. None of them showed me that they deserved to have top 9 minutes last year....Walker looked the best, to me. We'll see how,or if, they improved this season.

Well for me it's make or break time for some of the prospects. Rossi and Walker aren't going to learn anything else in the AHL; Beckman probably has maybe a season left of learning before he's done.

Just retreading old guys isn't going to make the team better. If the kids can't cut it you add a retread during the season.

Put Rossi at wing with Boldy/JEE where he can learn the NHL game without the pressure of covering all 200' of the ice. If/when he succeeds there then try him at center. Playing him as a center (or wing) in the bottom-6 with what MN has for a roster is setting him up for failure. They just don't have the skill to make use of his skillset.

at some point in time you must subtract players before you can add. next year khusnudinov (whosnutfelloff) does he replace hartman? ohgren does he take mojo's spot? i don't see a spot on the big club for yurov unless he tears it up this year. i guess lambos or peart will grab goligoskis spot. wally the beer goalie is all but a lock for fleurys job. i still hope if zuccarello leaves we sign tarasenko. again im thinking ahead to next summer.

Duhaime, Foligno, Hartman, Maroon, and Zucc are all UFAs after the season. I think between 2-4 of them will be re-signed (with term).

Ohgren probably has a year in the AHL. Marat K is playing pressbox/winger so far this year in the KHL. Yurov is the one I see getting gifted a NHL roster spot so he doesn't stay in the KHL any longer.

The LD are all probably all stuck in the AHL until Merrill is gone, unless Addison is gone instead.

Wallstedt has to forget how to play to not get the backup goalie spot next year.
