I'd try:

Kaprizov-Rossi-Hartmann
Foligno-JEE-Zucharello
Johansson - Dewar - Maroon
I - don't - care

We're missing Boldy badly. Would give use more options to shuffle the lines.

I'm still pushing for

Kaprizov-JEE-Zuccarello
Johansson-Rossi-Foligno
? - Hartman - Maroon
Duhaime - Dewar - ?

Throw around Lettieri, Walker, Khaira, Beckman in those slots until Boldy gets back. Then put Boldy where Zuccarello/Foligno is, whichever line isn't on fire.
Lettieri isn’t it. Has Khaira played a regular season game yet?

Yeah and he wasn't very good.

I'm not a fan of that because Hartman is really the only one moving down, and he deserves to stay up far more than any of Zuccarello, Foligno or Johansson (Kaprizov is Kaprizov so that is what it is).

Kaprizov-Rossi-Hartman
Johansson-Ek-Boldy (when he's back)

Who cares what you do with the bottom six at this point

Zagging here, but I feel like we’re an ok team with Spurgeon and Boldy playing.
With Spurgeon/Boldy playing and with Kap playing like his normal self. More often than not we could rely on 2 Kap points a game as a baseline and then getting contributions from everywhere else.

That being said, puck luck has been a little bit bad on both sides and we've been having to constantly play catch up which has exasperated the defensive problems.

Maybe they should try Petan... I know, I know... But can he really be any worse than Walker/Lettieri/Khaira?

I'd swap Boldy and Kaprizov in your top 6. I just want to see something else other than the usual line combos from Dean.

No.

Honestly I'm a little surprised they haven't tried Beckman at all yet. I know he's got a lot to work on in his game, but they loved his attitude and energy last year coming out of camp to the point that some people thought he'd outright make the team.

It should also be noted, the one shift Rossi got with Kap and Zucc they spent the entire shift in the offensive zone. That is something Dean needs to look at and consider.

Yes, Petan is worse than Letierri and Walker. Same type of player, but smaller, weaker, and a poorer defender. Khaira is a different type of player....4th liner, with size.

I thought Letierri was ok, as was Walker. That one puck that he coughed up leading to Haula's goal was because Addison fired a too hard, too close pass to him, so he shares a lot of the blame.

Dean simply isn't putting the young players in a chance to succeed, or if he does it's for one or two games only, which is next to no chance at all.

We must be watching different players. Both were/have been hot garbage.

Different opinions, for sure. "Hot Garbage" is a loaded term which implies they are useless. I thought they both looked ok, for ELC minimum guys with next to no practice time with the rest of the team, and being put in roles that they don't usually play.

Between the two of them they have played 5 games, averaging about 10 minutes per game. Zero PP, which, as offensive players, is where they will fit.

Sorry, gotta give those minutes to Foligno, Maroon and Gaudreau. Grit and defensive acumen is how a PP succeeds.

These stats are abysmal for a $9MM player, 76% Ozone start% with 45% xGF%, 44% SCF% and 39% HDCF% at Even strength this season for Kaprizov, actual GF% is 41%. PDO at 97.4% so you can't blame luck, if anything, with a HDCF% like his, it could mean he has been lucky it hasn't been worse. You will not win many games if your star player playing 20 minutes a night has real and advanced stats like this.

And to the eye he’s been that bad or worse. I don’t need fancy stats to tell me he’s not only gripping his stick too hard but that he’s making poor decisions with the puck. Just a complete nightmare watching him struggle like this and there is nobody there for him to surf behind to try and get out of it.

Gustavsson somehow has higher save percentage on high danger shots than mid-range shots. I believe this is less than ideal.

The Devan Dubnyk
I prefer to hope he's more like the goaltending version of Vinny Prospal, on one year, off the next. Repeat.

The truth is probably that having only 2 top-4 defensemen on the active roster hurts a goalie's numbers, and that's only a 5 game sample size. I can't read into those numbers, yet. But, if he turns out to be another Dubnyk, I really hope Wallstedt turns out to be the real deal.

Russo and Smith released a nice analytical article saying what we kind of already know and why it makes sense for our losses to just "feel" so bad - we are slower and playing more time in the defensive zone than last year. So any offense we might have is getting even less chance to shine. Also affecting Gus Bus

When Boldy & Gaudreau are back, I wouldn’t mind seeing something like this:

KK - Rossi - Boldy
Foligno - Ek - Hartman
Johansson - Dewar - Zucc
Duhaime - Gaudreau - Maroon

It's hard to demote a guy like Hartman, who is PPG, for Rossi, who has less than half the amount of points. It may well have to be done, at some point, but if you are going to have any semblance of a meritocracy on the team, that can't happen right now.

Same goes for JEE.

I agree that Rossi needs more time with talented offensive players, but short of sticking him on the wing(which i am not sure that I want, either), I think he'll have to wait his turn, wait for an injury/trade to Hartman/JEE, or simply play so freaking great(and the others not) that common sense will dictate a change. Right now that isn't happening, for all that Marco is playing well.
