How is everyone feeling about Addison?

I've been quite impressed with him thus far - as in - I haven't noticed anything glaring wrong with his defense but his ability to QB the PP is definitely standing out. I think he's looking like a great 3rd pairing defenseman but perhaps young enough to suggest there's more to develop. But so far so good.

He's essentially Marc-Andre Bergeron only his PP skill-set is different IMO. He cannot defend, I would trust the average NHL forward(Johansson probably the best description on our team of this) to defend better under any circumstances. I think this is his last year with the Wild, it will be Peart(maybe Lambos) + someone(UFA/trade, not internal) on the 3rd pair with Merrill as the 7 next year I think.

What's the daily cap savings?

$0 they are over the cap and into LTIR money. They have less than $10k in the bank for accumulated cap space; which is less than 3 days worth of a league min contract.

They still have ~$1m in LTIR space the can still use while Goli is out.

What are your expectations for him?

Mine aren't all that high, so I think he's doing ok. If you expect a top 4 D-man? He's not it.
I reiterate, if you're looking for a top 4 d-man, he's not it... he's a bottom pair PP specialist that has no business getting the even strength ice time he's getting right now. The less the better... I'd rather see more of Merrill and Mermis than more of Addison next to Brodin... it's painful to watch him being played in a top 4 role.

100% agreed, I guess I set my expectations way too low to begin with. I had doubts he could even man the PP which he is doing well. But he needs to be sheltered on the 3rd line, maybe not as much as Klingberg was but it'll be nice to have a guy like Soucy there.

And different topic - following our horrible loss against the Kings and Toronto, and the noticeable lack of even-strength offense ... I am hoping to god we start to shuffle some of the lines.

To start off with, I would love to see JEE move up to the first. The first line is obviously struggling and Boldy is injured, so there's no incentive to no split up the Johansson-JEE-Boldy line - the key player isn't there! And it's not the shutdown GREEF line either that needs to be used vs key opponents.

Keep Rossi on the 3rd and move Hartman with Johansson - I hate it, but I'll take any baby steps towards showing some coaching versatility and ability to adapt. So let's get JEE with Kaprizov and take it from there

Morning skate, new lines...

Kap-Hart-Zucc
MaJo-Ek-Maroon
Moose-Rossi-Freddy
Duhaime-Dewar-Walker

Dean is a great coach :D

Evason is just not a very creative or resourceful coach.

He thinks Kaprizov-Hartman-Zuccarello line has to stick together even though Zuccarello has been dreadful and Hartman has been pretty mediocre so far.
He thinks Foligno-Rossi-Gaudreau has to stick together even though it's just an average bottom six line.
Duhaime and Dewar are stapled together at the hip, he could never break those two up.

He gets it in his head that certain things just work, and he can't be talked down no matter what happens.

The team could lose every single game, but there are certain combinations he won't touch. Why? Because he assumes those parts are the working parts, and the issue is something like Maroon and Walker need to be switched. That'll spark something, surely.

Try something new? Nah, he's incapable.

It's entirely possible that a Kaprizov-Ek-Johansson line or Kaprizov-Rossi-Hartman line could be miles better than the Kaprizov-Hartman-Zuccarello line, or a Foligno-Gaudreau-Hartman line could be the new GREEF line, but we'll never know because Dean won't try anything new unless he's forced to by injuries.

I don't think Dean wants to remove Zuccarello from the top line when he leads the league in assists, along with Fiala and Pettersson. And if you ask Kaprizov who he wants to play with, I think you know the answer...

Considering only 2 of those 6 assists are in even strength situations, Zucc could still keep racking up those PP points even if they are on separate lines.

I guess I was more optimistic last year, and thought that he might grow with support from the coaching staff. I now have my doubts that he will improve much, but ya, especially for this team, having a PP QB who moves the puck quickly and shoots quickly is a welcome change from what we have had in the past.

For all of his faults, btw, he's worth far more than a 3rd rounder. A young, cost controlled RHD with a defined NHL skillset is worth at least a late 1st, IMO.

I mean, it would be nice if we had a Scandella/Soucy type to pair with him. A young Scandella, that is.
The Wild would be LUCKY to get a 3rd. NO WAY is he worth a 1st to anybody. He is just another Will Butcher

So you're fine giving Addison a $2m x 1 (Goli's AAV) contract this upcoming offseason? That is the upper end of a 3rd round pick OS comp.

How about a short term $4m/yr deal? This is the upper end of a 2nd round pick OS comp.

Are you trying to imply that offer sheet comp is equal to player trade value?

In a lot of cases, yes, it's a good guideline for a player going on his 3rd or 4th contracts. In Addison's case, 100%.

Get to know Craig Leipold, he's actually a cool dude.

Sounds like he needs to keep Guerin on a leash, and stop crushing his suite at the X :D
