Minnesota Wild General Discussion - 2023-24

I was excited about what it could mean for his trade value, but Guerin isn't capitalizing on any of these TDL candidates to acquire assets to build a better team in the future. And I think the grand finale will be Kaprizov walking to free agency when his contract is up for a team who has actually focused on building up for future success during his time with the Wild.
I don't feel that way with Foligno or Zuccarello as TDL assets as I may have mentioned in the other forum. I don't feel their value is very high (I expect both to be at most a 3rd round pick).

However, I do feel very much like that with Hartman and think he'll be more beneficial traded on TDL than re-signed. I think he could go as high as a 25-40 pick + 3rd round pick in terms of value. So really hope we don't sign him early. At very least, let him play out a few months of play before sealing any deal.

Foligno's value has dropped drastically since then, so naturally he won't fetch as much as a couple years ago, but retaining salary on him as an expiring UFA (which should be a given) would still make him attractive piece at the deadline. He's the type of player GM's cream over at grade deadlines. Good in the locker room, big, physical, tough, can possible chip in some degree of offense. I'm thinking at least a 2nd with possibly a smaller piece added on as well at 50% retained. And that's more valuable to this team moving forward than another 2-3 years of Foligno himself.

We keep prioritizing the next 2-3 years as if we're any kind of contenders during that time. Other teams are rapidly passing us by. Look at our pool coming up compared to the likes of what Buffalo and New Jersey and Anaheim are building. Would you bet on us in 3+ years or would you bet on some of those other teams?

Not saying we're gonna get to that level by just moving Foligno, but it's the trend of continuously prioritizing being moderately relevant now.

I'm not including any retention in my guesswork because I feel its too much of a variable bc you also have to include the disadvantage of $1.5mil cap hit; but yes, at 50%, Foligno will be more of an attractive trade asset.

And I would bet on us.

Those 3 teams maybe rapidly improving but only after sucking at for many years (Buffalo missed the playoffs for 12 years straight and only starting to almost make it). And when these 3 teams improve, other teams will free fall and replace those bottom teams.

Our draft run from 2013-2018 were pretty bad and we're are feeling the effect today making this a pretty consistent first round playoff team. But even still with a bad run, we have remain competitive and I am very optimistic of 2019-2023 (Boldy, Rossi, Wallstedt, Yurov, Ohgren, Khusnutdinov, Spacek, Lambos, Peart etc.) to only add to that competitive team.

But hoping not argue to much on this as I understand every poster has various levels of confidence in the team, prospect pool, coaching etc. And I 100% understand your perspective so not trying to convince you, rather explain my view. :thumbu:

I think we see Guerin's plan, he wants Kaprizov to be happy here, doing everything he can to get Kap's signature on a new contract when time comes.

So Kap gets the A, and his close buddy has been re-signed. Let's see if it works.

"I'd like a pizza with everything on it, guy.”
"So, sauce and cheese?"
"You f***in' know it, and hey this one is special so pull out all the stops. Talkin' one of them little plastic stools, packet of parmesan, the whole dick here”

So how much will he give Hartman now that moose got his contract?
If he was going to give moose that deal, he should’ve signed Hartman first…..

Adjusting my expectations. I expected Hartman to get in the low 4's, now I'm thinking a solid 5. I can't see a way he gets more than Eriksson Ek (but I couldn't see a way Foligno got 4x4 either so?), who's at 5.25, but he has to get more than Foligno and Zuccarello, if he's going to sign, I'd think? Especially knowing he can just ask Guerin for whatever he wants and get it with a NMC.

So I'll guess 5x5 and be pleasantly surprised (and thankful to Hartman) for anything less.

$5M would be the ceiling, based on next years cap situation, and it would probably end up booting Addison from the team if he earns any kind of raise next season.

I think Addison is bound for the same fate Fiala was, and I don't think Hartman's contract has any impact on that. Something about the way Guerin wouldn't go above 1 year x 825k for him but just handed Foligno 4x4 on the first day of negotiations...

He technically couldn’t without making larger changes. We have $43k in cap space right now which means we only had $868k to work with to sign Addison.

Eh, you're right, but I'm not sure he wanted to either

I won’t be upset if Addison is traded because I think he just doesn’t fit with the makeup of the defense. We already have one small RD and three of the D will just get bullied by bigger players.

Plus we have to make room for Spacek.

I predict Hartman gets $6M

Read that Hentges, Bankier, and Milne all injured but not sent down - maybe going Duluth to bond?

Hunt hasn't been sent down either.

I think players have to be healthy to be sent down, or they end up on the SOIR list.
