Similar to the idea of wanting to see Rossi get extended time with top 6 players, having your best center see extended time with the best winger (and player) would also be nice to see.

Last 3 years, Eriksson Ek has seen less than 12% of his 5v5 ice time with Kaprizov.

Styles might not ending up meshing, but there really isn't enough evidence to make that determination yet.

Rossi legit made the team last year based off of the camp and preseason, but once the games were full NHL speed with full NHL rosters, he started to look lost and I'm sure lack of confidence started to compound. I don't think Evason did him any huge favors, but I'm not putting it all on him either. Rossi was just clearly not ready last year.

If he's a better player this year, it'll still show, even playing with Foligno and Gaudreau.

"Luckily" I didn't get one of the RR2.0 jerseys, I really like the new patch on the shoulder and the new captains patches, although the player I'm getting doesn't wear a letter so it doesn't matter much.

Really if you can't produce at freddy and foligno levels while playing w them then better line mates are not holding you back.

Foligno is a 4th line player , he’s the issue with that line. Put Duhaime or Dewer there and at least there’s some semblance of skill around Rossi. Duhaime Rossi Gudreau is something slightly better than a grinder line.

He'll be in the top 5 for goals and top 3 in assists if he averages 5 goals and 20 assists in those 4 years. He's captain. Only thing missing is a good playoff run.

No. Koivu's shouldn't have been retired. Wild shouldn't double down on celebrating mediocrity.

I said when they retired Koivu's number that Spurgeon would probably end up with at least an equal case, with the only exception being Koivu's Selke nomination and him being the "first" captain.

So did Koivu. I really have no idea why they were in such a rush to retire 9. I know the reasons they gave, but they don't hold water when it comes to retiring a number.

Koivu.

The fans being retired is a cheap gimmick, super cheesy. But it's obviously a cheap gimmick so it's easier to say "that's dumb" and move on because you're not comparing a player to other players for the rest of time.

With Koivu they were being serious about it, which makes it worse because he's not deserving of that honor. Now we're going to get ludicrous questions like "should we retire 46 next?" until we're all dead. "Should we retire 25 after that? He's on pace for more games than anyone." It cheapens the meaning of jersey retirement when you retire a player like Koivu based on games played and captaincy status.

Jersey retirement should mean something if you're going to remove that number from the pool for the next 100-200+ years. That person had to either be a great individual talent, one of his generations greats, or lead the team to high levels of success. Koivu was/did neither.

I will say though, it probably shouldn't have been surprising that an organization that retires 1 for the fans before even playing a season, would retire a guy like Koivu for "playing the most games" and "being the first permanent captain". It's all kind of in the same vein of like, we don't have much else to celebrate or honor but we want to feel special.

Yeah I mean I get where you're coming from, and I don't follow other Minnesota sports teams (except the Twins sometimes), but I don't know if there are any other numbers retired by the Vikings, Wolves or Twins that don't have a solid reason behind it. Maybe someone can inform me about any of the Vikings players? The only Twins player I can think of that would compare to Koivu is Hrbek, but I also wasn't around to watch him play, and know he had a couple big moments in the two World Series wins.

Point being, the Wolves haven't retired any bad numbers, the Twins are largely good on who they've retired, Vikings are up in the air until someone confirms it for me, so it's not really a trend in Minnesota, it's kinda just the Wild.
