I'd love to get him over here and have him make the team, but the difference is that he's already decided he won't play any AHL time. Unless the Wild think he's a no-brainer in the NHL, they probably can't bring him back.
In his very brief time in Iowa he certainly didn't look like one of the better players on the ice. Below average, to me.

They have Marat K as a no-brainer on the NHL roster now...

The AHL thing was two seasons (and a head coach) ago and his KHL season is now over. With the tire fire that the AHL team has been, going to the KHL to develop (and get paid more) looks like it was the smart decision. Firstov's mistake was not signing a KHL deal instead of the NHL one. If he had done that everyone would be drooling over him like they have been Marat K.

If they aren't going to bring him back then unconditional waiver him. Otherwise the only reason to keep him on the 50 man roster is out of spite so he can never play in the NHL. It's not like he has trade value (Mennel and Nesterenko).

1) They do? Proof?

2) We would?

1) that's the plan according to the front office.

2) The last 2 seasons in the KHL. Firstov: 28g/33a (61p) in 114 games, Marat K: 17g/41a (61p) in 118 games. Just for fun Yurov (I know he had strange usage) 27g/34a (61p) in 121 games.

That was also two years ago before he had any pro hockey experience. Now he has two years of it. Not saying he's a bona fide NHL player, but it should be worth bringing him over to find out what he is.

He has one year left on his ELC, I don't know what the plan is with him if they don't bring him back now and plan on loaning him out again next season.

Sure, bring him over, but will he want a one way deal? If so, that's a complete and utter non starter.

He's on his ELC, he doesn't have much of a choice, but I'm saying just put him in the NHL anyway to see how he does. Worst case scenario is he sucks in the NHL and then he's just a healthy scratch the rest of the year but he still gets to practice with the team. I just don't see any downside even if he hasn't "earned" the spot. Like Wabit said, Marat hasn't "earned" a spot either and they're just going to give him one.

So If Guerin didnt sign Zuccarello this season what do you think the Wild could have got for him today? Hes a point per game guy. 1st round pick and a prospect?
With no extension in place, depends on how much the Wild could retain on him.

Looking at the Toffoli and Tarasenko trades as reference, I’m guessing Zucc would have got a 2nd round pick.

Buyer’s deadline.

Can we open up the Konecny conversation again in here?

Also, assuming Guerin wants to take a swing to prove to Kaprizov he means business, what other players are low cap hit for one more year then extension eligible?
So, $8-$8.5M might seem a bit scary for Konecny, but if you think of it like a 3 player average for him, Eriksson Ek and Boldy, it comes out to ~$6.9M per player, which I think are exceedingly fair hits for all 3 players. I really do think it works going forward, even if Kaprizov gets $13M. Now it's just the question of if the assets given up are worth it.

I don't see that he should be much more valuable than Fiala, 1st+prospect as a base, and I would still be willing to add something like Haight+3rd to get it done. I know Flyers fans would be asking for a lot more, I just don't see how he would be worth 3 premium assets (a la 1st and Ohgren) and more.

Think you could also swap Ohgren with Heidt depending on GM preferences and what they can work out.

Yeah, I'm just maybe over-shooting it into the "offer they can't refuse" territory with the possible inclusion of a second 1st. But if it is, a guy like Ohgren definitely isn't.

You don't need to convince me, I said I'd love to have him come over. I also know that he doesn't want to play in the AHL, and I don't blame him. That means both he and the Wild management need to believe there's a roughly 0% chance he gets assigned there.

I don't know why Marat signed with the Wild. Either the above is true for him, or he doesn't mind playing some AHL time.

I'm wondering how low/high his stock was in the KHL. St. Pete had him pressboxed and he wasn't a world beater (6th in FWD scoring) in Sochi. Sochi (10-5-1) was the "better" when he was traded there, they went 13-33-6 after that trade. They dropped from 3.125 to 1.691 goals per game after the trade. I wouldn't lay that all on Marat K, but he was 2nd in FWD ToI per game so he did have a big role on that team.

I will say the Marat K/Borna trade was a bad trade for Sochi.

There are times Zuccarello goes underappreciated on here for one reason or another, but when he makes a pass like that, you have to give credit to a special player.

Well said. He's very much appreciated by the team, and that's the important thing. Guerin obviously made it clear that Zucc is not for sale.

So the team needs to realistically go 12-5 over the last 17 games to make it in. It’s doable but not likely. They have the Avs , Blues , Knights and Kings twice and a game against the Jets also.

They basically need to seeep the board against the non playoff teams and go .500 in the tough matchups listed above. Gonna be unlikely but we can safely assume they play their way into draft pick 13-15.

And have help from Vegas losing.

They'd need to win both games in regulation against the LA or VGK to have a shot. It would put them 2p behind them in the current standings for the final WC spot.

Was just looking at the odds breakdown. 12-5 gets us to 86% chance of making it. I’d assume this takes into account quality of opponent for those in front of us in their remaining schedules as well.

Jet lag is a bitch.

I've found that it's best not to nap when dealing with jet lag. Just muscle through the day as best you can and go to sleep at a reasonable hour. First day is a grind, but 2-3 days later the body will be fully adjusted.

As someone that recently got back from a trip to the other side of the world, it’s such a pain in the ass to readjust when the time difference is 8-12 hours.

Not to mention his travel time was likely 20+ hours, unless he somehow found a direct flight in. The sleep deprivation can be a huge struggle if you can’t fall asleep on planes that easily.

I remember I’d wake up thinking I was still on vacation even though I had already been back for 3-4 days at that point
