Surely, even Billy G can’t see this team as a buyer. We simply don’t have the ingredients no matter how you slice it

Are there players with term left available?
Rakell. He’s a RHS who can produce 60 pts with talent around him or 40 without much. Plays for Pens. You know Billy G is interested in a guy like that. $5M is probably $1M too much but I think he would be a fit. But hopefully we don’t move futures for him.

Man theyve got soo much to do with so little cap space next year. I'm pretty sure they're trying to get Faber on a long deal right away and maybe rossi too. If keeping chisholm, he's rfa and sounds like billy wants bogosian back too - which might as well they need cheap defensemen to get thru next year somehow. Then theres talk of another year with fleury too?

I just dont see how there's going to be room to add anyone, let alone a mid winger on the wrong side of thirty with a significant cap hit and term (even if there's retention). Besides there's plenty of wingers, probably significantly better, coming up within the term of Rakell's deal.

Kaprizov - Erikkson Ek - Boldy
Johansson - Rossi (ELC) - Zuccarello
Foligno - Khusnutdinov (ELC) - Hartman
X - Dewar (1.5) - Gaudreau
Shaw (.9)
Parise (7.372)

Brodin - Faber (ELC)
Middleton - Spurgeon
Chisholm (1.5) - Bogosian (1.5)
Merrill
Suter (7.372)

Gustavsson
Wallstedt (ELC)

$82.2M cap hit with 1 forward to sign. $5.2M in cap space if the cap is $87.5

If we could find somebody to push Johansson down a line and Foligno down a line, I'm in. Hell, still can't fully cross off that Yurov will be in there somewhere.

Would you really rather have Rickard Rakell - 30 years old and 8 goals to his name in 45 games so far - for the next four years rather than save a few MM on a long term deal with Brock Faber, who is certain to be a cornerstone for the team for the next decade at least?

Foligno has one more goal than Rakell this year and notably he doesnt play on a line with Sidney Crosby.

Didn’t know that this was a Rakell-specific thing. Just showing that we do have some room to maneuver next year.

I’m not sure you are saving by signing Faber longterm right now. With Spurgeon out, he’s been carrying a heavier load than he should. You’d be paying for his offensive production this year which is far from a guarantee to be sustainable.

Rakell isn’t a perfect fit but he’s the type of player we can realistically afford. And as a Pen, we know Guerin has probably kicked the tires. He’s also much better than he’s shown this year. Something to be said for buying low

Sanderson and Power have set the young defenseman 8 year contract market. Faber will be justified to ask for at least 8 x $8M. Now it's just a matter of if you think he could play his way into the $10M+ world. I still have doubts about that.

Okay guys...maybe Zucc's head is not on ice these days, for this reason. And maybe Webster will re-join the Rangers board, I know they miss him ;)

Nah. Then we’d have to add like 4 1sts

That and I think NYR have the cap space to take Zucc
No way we add on Walz….they should give us a couple firsts for him. With Walz in the booth and Rempe on the ice they would be oozing with Grit/Identity. Just ask Walz…..
So I say one 1st each. 1 for Grit….1 for Identity

No way Rangers turn that down……

I feel like the team is probably going to beat San Jose and then Arizona, and then on Friday Guerin will go out and do a mini buy of a couple of depth pieces thinking the team is still in the hunt for anything meaningful because they won two in a row.

I read this post first thing this morning and then cried myself back to sleep.

I tend to believe Guerin is not this dumb, but I’m willing to be proven wrong
