Right now, we've got( in descending order of value for this season);
Dewar- I've assumed that he has made the team. Two way, versatile, smart, courageous player. Evason will trust him. Only downside is his size, but his combination of smarts and toughness helps him make up for it. Not the highest ceiling....#3C at best, but way ahead of Gaudreau at the same age. Some similarities.
Rossi - Hoping for a Granlund'ish type career at the least. Might need a few more minor league games, but I think that sticking him with Boldy and Gaudreau would be just the thing for his game. Only things holding him back is speed and strength, but those are pretty damn important.
Steel- still relatively young, with close to 200 NHL games. Sounds like a cross between Jost and Donato. Lottery ticket at a relatively cheap price.
Chaffee- good size and strength, but doesn't use it....more of a scorer. I have doubts that he can adjust his game to be a grinder, but there is a spot for him on the 4th line if he can do it- RHS to boot! It's now or never for him....he's an older 24 yo. Wish he would turn into the next Hartman, but i don't see it.
Shaw - if you could put his energy and feistiness in Chaffee's body you'd have a kickass 4th liner. Height is holding him back, but a thick little guy. Could be faster, but is quick, and opportunistic.
Fogarty - Good size, not a fighter. RHS. Perfect guy to call up for one game to play 10 minutes. Sadly, no undiscovered potential at the age of 30yo.
Beckman - We'll see. Has the height, but a thin frame that needs to fill out. Also needs to work on getting his vg shot off more quickly, and learning how to be more effective as a scorer....tbh, i don't really know what he needs to do besides get stronger. He's grown since being drafted so he is well over 6', has a great shot, has gotten faster, is a decent passer, works hard both ways, though IMO his skillset is that of a shooter. Thought his progress was held back because of his usage a little bit down in Iowa. I can see him shooting up this list and slotting behind Rossi, but can also see him plateauing and becoming a AHL lifer.
Walker - Fast, good skater, good puck skills, smart. Average size, not sure about his weight. Feisty, if he wants to be. Skilled. Can see him transitioning into a energy type 4th liner, but also a skill type 3rd line guy. Another guy I can see jumping the list, but also plateauing in the AHL...it can be argued that he already has plateaued in college. FWIW, I'm happy for him that he got an education, but he is the sort of guy that might do better in a pro environment. You could argue that Swaney is a better, and similar player. I don't know. I love this pickup for us. If he can play in the middle of the ice he'll be a NHL'er.
Firstov- ?? He was ok in his brief AHL stints.
I'm assuming that Yurov and Ohgren are not available this year
