The team is better with Fiala? No shit sherlock. How about going deeper than the shallow end? Their record probably wouldn't be different with Fiala vs without because the CURRENT problem Fiala isn't a fix for.
We will never know... but people will continue to bring up the Fiala move for years to come, fixing problems or not.

I think the treatment of Fiala and the events leading up to us trading him are unforgivable and something that will piss me off for years. Mind-numbing to me actually how it all shook out.

If your mind was numb then would it be like mildly annoyed than pissed off situation? A never ending cycle of getting mad, thinking about it and going numb, and now you're just mildly annoyed.

I think Guerin had a point of saying we don’t have cap space. He also had a point of not being willing to trade multiple players to fit him in. The fact that he went ahead and still traded multiple players after Fiala so we can have $3.3M in useless cap space now and still employ players like Jost and Goligoski is extremely frustrating. Compound that with the expected $4M increase to the cap ceiling for next year…

Guerin deserves shit for how he handled it. The only way he comes out ahead is if Faber and Ohgren both hit big time.

I would look at something being mind-numbingly bad as it breaks your synapse connections it makes so little sense, and thus your mind has gone numb as a result. Your brain literally can't process the reasoning, it's so bad.

Oh so like looking back at pictures the fashion from the 70s or a first marriage?

I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from Faber so far this year too. It’s just a little bit “on brand” for what’s probably going to be a 30 point max defenseman being the benefit of trading away a PPG caliber forward.

All of this.

And what I’m about to say is wildly speculative but we traded Fiala after he finished the season 10th in 5v5 points in the NHL, half of those games played with AHL level players, so I’m struggling to see how Faber and Ohgren will come near the value Fiala brought to this team. I hope I’m wrong, but my confidence is low.

I’m pretty open about not being a Geurin fan, but when he went on and moved pieces for cap space, I was beyond frustrated. Even before last season when he had 85 points, the fact that he had seasons of 0.84 p/g and 0.8 p/g playing with atrocious linemates should have been enough to offer a deal, but Bill forced arbitration for our 2nd best player and now Kevin, whose pacing another 65+ point season is yet another miss for high-end offensive talent within this franchise. Kevin could and should be here, but alas, here we are with 10 5v5 goals after tonight, which is less than Arizona. Sigh.

And if it wasn’t for the ridiculous Goligoski extension and awful Jost/Sturm trade (he scored again tonight) then we’d have had another $5M this past summer, but Bill is going to Bill.

STL has 7 5v5 goals (only played 4 games), AZ/CHI have 8, COL has 9, MN/PHI/TOR/WIN have 10. That is the bottom-8 right now.

You right, I assumed the data set I was looking wasn’t updated yet entirely. The Games Played column was not, but GA/GF was apparently

I took them from NHL.com. Not my favorite place for stats, but I was there looking at scores and I got curious to the by strength scoring numbers. CHI has some interesting ones.

How quickly this forum turns around on the Jost/Sturm trade. I got torn to shreds regarding that trade. But regardless, Guerin's attitude toward certain players is certainly a problem. We can discuss Fiala and Sturm and whoever until we are blue in the face, BUT the fact remains they didn't want to be here. Sturm was going to walk and Fiala was going to as well after signing another bridge contract.

It isn't necessarily how he handles the cap, but his attitude that is a big, big issue with Guerin. Everyone likes his I don't take no shit attitude until he pisses off one of the best offensive players Minnesota has had in years and a useful depth center.

Some Pens fans have even commented on his attitude and how he has an anger issue.

Never once liked the Jost trade but even if Sturm wasn’t going to sign here, adding cap in an RFA with a year left during this dead cap era for a Tyson f***ing Jost was foolish as hell.

Regardless, I’m going to keep the Fiala talk to a minimum, nobody will ever talk me off that edge.

My synopsis of the Boldy-Rossi pairing is that you can maybe try them together for a few more games, but it’s hard to deny that they are getting nothing done at 5 on 5. When they get into the zone, they seem to cycle well, but there is no dangerous scoring changes being generated. They also have a hard time getting it into the zone. It’s more of a Rossi thing as pretty much every other linemate Boldy’s ever played with he’s been able to drive play with. I think I would try a little more speed with them. I don’t know. It’s not great right now though.

Patience.

I don't mind the idea that someone else had about maybe putting Greenway with them, but that's sort of throwing things against the wall to see what sticks.

That line wasn't getting much done when it was Steel-Gaudreau either though. It was just basically Boldy being Boldy.

Rossi should be in that spot long term, so unless someone else can provide better offense in that role (which right now only Ek can do), just keep him there until they figure it out. They've had success before together, let them work on it together here.

Two inexperienced kids on the same line is probably not smart, Boldy and Rossi game stats tonight are all zero. I think Boldy feels responsible for Rossi, and this could disturb his game. Perhaps better to split them up. I hope Rossi will get his first point soon.

I guess you could technically call Boldy an inexperienced kid, but he surely isn't playing like one.
