Stop making strawmans. Let me quote some of my earlier posts here.

The argument being presented is that having Fiala would help more than it hurts, and it might result in less goals against and a better record (even if only 1-2 points better, which over an 82 game season adds up).

I never said he'd be the answer to all our problems, and in fact I explicitly stated he wouldn't have prevented all 27 goals or turned us to a 5-0 team. The argument presented is that he helps more than he hurts, which logically speaking, means the team would be better off with him now than without him now.
You’d be throwing a grenade on what has been our best line for not allowing goals in the name of outscoring the real problem. There is minimal chance putting Fiala with Boldy results in that line with fewer goals against.

You’re right though, 8-7 is still a win. Still a net positive. Extremely unrealistic as well.

If someone has a 4.48 GF/60 and 3.18 GA/60, that means they score more than they get scored on. That means if he were here, he'd be scoring more than he gets scored on, which means a positive goal differential.

Add that to a line with an already positive goal differential (I'm assuming, I didn't look this one up), and you get an even more positive goal differential.

Which means for any goals against that you'd want to credit to him being back on that line, they'd still score proportionately more goals for per 60, because Fiala is a net positive goal differential player.

This isn't an opinion for you to dispute. This is math.

You literally just described outscoring the problem… Congratulations.

Hello everyone - I want to introduce myself to the Wild forum. I've been following the Wild on HF for a little over 10 years - and also old enough to have followed the North Stars. However, finally decided to get a login to follow the game feed (the feed does not update w/o a login). Anyway, I'll probably still hover and read the posts without interacting.

For my one thought this year - Judging by all the comments regarding line combination ideas, it reminds me of the old saying "rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic" (hopefully I'm wrong).

You're still stuck on "the problem" while failing to understand that the entire point is simply that we'd be better off with Fiala than without. I'm not sure how many times I need to say that I'm NOT saying Fiala is the answer to all the problems we have here, I'm simply saying we'd be better off with him than without him. I don't know how you're reading that to say he would solve all our problems.

We could still talk about and address those problems with him here. Nothing would be preventing us from doing that.

Welcome to the asylum!

So what I read is you're new (but not) and want to make GDTs. Right? :help::popcorn:

Hello and welcome. :D

I had NO problem with Fiala, and didn't want to see him moved. But I swear to God, that horse has been beaten so much every #!$!ing game since last year that I'm starting to simply hate his name.

Just venting.....ignore and keep scrolling......

It's probably going to take a lot longer to get over that one, so might as well just expect someone to bring it up at some point. It's been a brewing wound for some time before this past offseason, not surprising people are going to stew over it for a long time after as well.

People still go on about the Burns trade, and that happened over a decade ago. People go on about the North Stars, and they left almost 30 years ago. We even get the (ugly) retro jerseys with their colors from a team with 0 ties to the Wild.

I guess we can flip the script and say that it was actually the loss of Benn not Fiala that is the cause of the team's problems this year. I see that idea being shot down pretty quickly by everyone on here...

All things that get brought up semi-regularly around here, all 3-30 years old.

Fiala trade happened 4 months ago.

This team is never going to go anywhere without a first line center. We've been complaining about not having a first line center since - hell, since this team was first announced, but in the past 15 years, all this board has really complained about is not having a first line center.

How many first line centers has this team drafted? The whole concept of...we don't need a high draft pick, we can find one anywhere in the draft!..

45 centers drafted and none of them turned out to be first line centers. We've had some good players, but Bouchard and Granlund turned into wingers, Koivu was an elite middle 6 center (could never stay healthy) as well as Eriksson-Ek. But Gilmour? O'Sullivan? Courchaine? Sheppard? Khovanov? A list of failed players up and down the list.

Also don't point out ... look at Kaprizov! That means anyone could end up being a good player anywhere in the draft. That's 19 players total picked in the 5th round with Soucy and then Seeler being the next bunch.

Minnesota doesn't need a first overall pick, especially in this year's draft. And yeah this team isn't going to tank on purpose, but if it was any year to load up on draft picks, dump dead weight or expiring contracts it's the year to do it.

Yeah this team could end up with a Strome or Zacha, and that's where you trust your scouts. But Fantelli? That'd be a great prize there or any of the top 5 guys...

I wouldn't be surprised if this draft was like 2015. And that was a deep draft.

But again, the Wild will squeak into the playoffs, get bounced in 5 games, fans will complain and go right back to the fact that there isn't elite talent outside of Boldy and Kaprizov on this team and that they need a top center - rinse and repeat every year.

For 2/3 seasons he was barely above a 50% GF%
And for 2/3 seasons he was playing with notable shit. Barely above 50% GF% seems like a nice accomplishment.

It's probably going to take a lot longer to get over that one, so might as well just expect someone to bring it up at some point. It's been a brewing wound for some time before this past offseason, not surprising people are going to stew over it for a long time after as well.
It's also the biggest change between a team that was good last year to one that is (so far) pretty shitty this year, so yeah, it might occasionally come up.

I think everyone is still sour on it. It's the "everything would be sunshine and rainbows if he were here" bit that drives me up a wall. Did not realize Fiala was the guy holding up the defense, goaltending, and forcing Kap/Zucc to play defense. This team would be in the exact same spot if he was still here because what's wrong with the team currently (defense) isn't Fiala's specialty.

You're missing Risebrough, Gaborik, Prospect Development since the start of the franchise, the drafting of Colton Gillies, Benoit Pouliot, James Shepard, the over-payment of Backstrom etc etc etc...

I think people are just voicing all their beefs because they're frustrated with the team they're watching. They want to vent about what they hated most, and they hated moving Fiala most. I don't think anyone seriously believes that one move is the reason for all the ills alone.

I think it's been pointed out to you that nobody is really saying this. I'm not sure why it hasn't quite landed.

The team is better with Fiala? No shit sherlock. How about going deeper than the shallow end? Their record probably wouldn't be different with Fiala vs without because the CURRENT problem Fiala isn't a fix for.

Chaos Theory disagrees with this, but we're still not having the same discussion, since you've again brought up fixing problems. We can probably let it go.
