Anyone complaining about the contract is out to lunch. As for sample size, it is what it is but Minnesota could not give him a bridge deal because that would give him arbitration rights. His performance in the KHL and during his first season is very close to Panarin, in fact even better. And Kaprizov probably wanted to get to UFA as soon as possible (3 years), so you are paying higher AAV because of that.

He will live up to his contract, especially if the Wild will actually get some decent linemates for him.

Come on guys... Let's be realistic he isn't sniffing those numbers. He shot at 17% for 55 games. Of those 55 games, 32 of them were against Anaheim, SJ, Arizona, and LA.

This is a terrible deal that is going to backfire hard.
He was basically a PPG player against Colorado, Vegas and St. Louis. Keep the hot takes coming, though

One zone player? You're basing that off of what?
Watching him, and the defensive black hole exposed by basically any advance metric. He’s as one dimensional as “one dimensional” gets, not to say bad player or not worth money.

His next contract he'll be a UFA. Minnesota will have him under contract for 6 years total which less than most teams hold onto their high profile players.

Most 24 year olds will be UFA's when their brand new medium/long term contract expires. That's kind of how it works. That's like, THE point.

Basically almost all Minnesota fans say that their team won't be relevant for those 5 years meaning that Kaprizov won't have realistic chance for Stanley Cup in his best years but somehow it's Minnesota who got screwed by a greedy Russian.
It's a fair deal. Kirill needs a lot to prove this year, if his scoring drops down people will immediately jump on him for this contract and toxicity in negotiations that Teophanous usually brings in.

The implication of the graphic I quoted.

The graphic demonstrates that this is likely not a flash in the pan, given his KHL numbers are similar to or better than most of the big name Russian players at the same age. Panarin, specifically. We're not paying for those years, but those years do demonstrate that he has consistently been the same level of player, or improving, for years.

In what way? Based on what?

I eagerly anticipate your reply showing me that you never actually watched the player.

Ehlers is an elite possession driving forward that scores exceptionally well at 5 on 5.

He hasn't gotten number 1 pp time which is largely why he's been more of a 65 point player and not a 75 plus point player.

I actually also like that comparison better then Conner as Nik is a better player then Conner is.

He's not going to be a UFA at 24, he's going to be a UFA at 29. You wanna ask me how many high end players are UFA at 29 now?
No kidding. I'm well aware, I'm just pointing out the Wild get him for less guaranteed time than other teams get their young stars, and coming off his 2nd contract he will be a UFA (which isn't the case for a lot of young players).

But honestly the length isn't the problem here, its the price compared to what he has proven.

Same situation
Again, I have no idea why you're interjecting Shesterkin into this conversation other than it has to do with some sort of potential personal insecurity.

But if you're asking me if I think the Rangers should have paid him for his work in the KHL my answer would remain the same: no.
