lol I don't want to hear 1 more word about Marner. 5 years, 9 million for a guy with a half a season of games. Unreal.

This contract doesn't mean Marner isn't overpaid. You can have more than one overpaid player in the league...

Glad to see this get done for Minny. Still want to see them land Eichel and pair those two together.

Come on guys... Let's be realistic he isn't sniffing those numbers. He shot at 17% for 55 games. Of those 55 games, 32 of them were against Anaheim, SJ, Arizona, and LA.

This is a terrible deal that is going to backfire hard.

This has been looked into.
He was a career 15% percent shooter in the KHL(18 to 23 aged seasons), and over his last three KHL seasons shot 19%.

There is no evidence of big drop offs in shooting percentage between KHL and NHL and vice versa. 17% is a likely normal shooting percentage for him.

Is this how Wild fans really feel? Ugh.

I don't speak on behalf of the fanbase as a whole, I have no clue.

I don't think this is going to be a bad deal, but there seems to be a lot of people who think his low number of games played means he's going to end up as a 60 point forward, as if he didn't spend years in Russia and international play establishing the caliber of player he is. So, if the worst case scenario does come true, it's still pretty inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. I mean Buffalo isn't hurt as bad by Jeff Skinner's contract as Vegas or Colorado would be. That's just the reality of being a bad team.

Pastrnak and Huberdeau have to be looking at this and saying, "WTF?" If Kaprizov is worth this much, they are worth a billion dollars....hell, Marner is underpaid!

Except if you watched him play, he was very good against Vegas and Colorado as well.
Not to mention that those 4 teams biggest strengths are their defense, and they would mostly be passable if not for the inept offenses. Gibson, Kuemper and Quick aren't exactly slouches compared to league wide.

Then you have a terrible evaluation of the market. The best wingers in the game right now are making 10-11 million.

Kaprizov could've easily played hardball here. Is it the best contract in the league? Obviously not, but it is a fair deal.

Kyle Connor is making 7 million. This is right in the realm for what Kaprizov is at this point. A line driving wing.

Kaprizov did play hard ball though? It took months to sign him. If Kyle Connor and his 7 million is in the ballpark for Kaprizov, then why is 9m a good contract?

I'm not saying Kaprizov is a bad player or anything but I think people would be less callous if it was in the 7.5 - 8.2 range or so. There's currently 9 wingers making more money than him. Two (Skinner and Benn) obviously don't belong so let's say he's the 8th best paid winger if we remove the shitty contracts like they don't exist just for me. Can that really be justified? Especially when there's been zero cap rise for 3 years now.

I guess in the end it doesn't matter for Minny if he gets a mil less or more but it's just a wild number to me when you compare it with Rantanen (Which was literally the only thing I took exception to to begin with)

Good contract especially considering the trend of young productive players getting paid for future prime years. He's got the talent to make it worth it that's for sure.

I have full confidence if you swapped Rantenen and Kaprizov teams, Kaprizov would put up similar numbers in Colorado as Rantenen next to MacKinnon. Heck he had basically as many goals next to Rask. Just no one else on his line could score.

I think he's better than Panarin almost. If he can get to 100 points, then god damn.

I don’t know have his shooting drop to a more normal 12% and his totals and pace take a rather large hit.
If Vegas paid Karlsson as a 40 goal PPG player it would have been a disaster

There's nothing that the Wild could have done really, but man that is crazy money for literally a sample size of games. The talent is flush and apparent, but that is a contract for proven consistency. The saving grace, in a way, is that it is only 5 years which comes with slightly less risk. Especially given his age and apparent peak. Hopefully, he performs and shows durability for Wild fans in the years to come. He certainly was fun to watch. I would have enjoyed it more if he didn't have so much success at the Kings' expense... :P

His normal KHL shooting percentage was 19%. There isn't any evidence of a drop in shooting percentage among high end players going between leagues.
