Come on guys... Let's be realistic he isn't sniffing those numbers. He shot at 17% for 55 games. Of those 55 games, 32 of them were against Anaheim, SJ, Arizona, and LA.

This is a terrible deal that is going to backfire hard.
Except if you watched him play, he was very good against Vegas and Colorado as well.

Neat. Kaprizov is in between him and Nylander. Fair value. Especially with the cap increasing since Rantanen signed that contract.

The salary cap has been the exact same every year since Rantanen signed his contract. You think given NHL experience, play style, pedigree, blah blah all things considered that Rantanen is worth 160k more per year than Kaprizov only?

Not sure where Nylander files in this area. Toronto has been less than stellar at contracts and he even sat out. He's also Nearly 3m less than either of the other two.

Even if this ends up being a bad contract, who cares? It ends in five years, we're not going to be relevant for those five years anyway. There's very little actual practical risk in this deal.
Hahaha um what?

“He just doesn’t want to be here long term”

Still not a fan of the deal, but atleast it’s over with.

6.9 is nearly 3 m less than 9 million?

Rantanen has already burned through 2 years of his contract. The cap is going up a million dollars the next few years. Kaprizov is also not playing on a line like Rantanaen has been the last few year. Fair value deal for what Kaprizov has brought and what he will bring from a marketing stand point.

Hey that poster was right. He was still a turd about it though.

He wasn't "right". He posted his thread after Russo reported on the two sides being close to a 5x9 contract. He just reposted it here.

The guy had Victor Rask as his center for most of the year. You ever watch him play? He will outperform this contract.

I don’t even want to think of the predicament we’ll be in when Fiala outproduces Kaprizov this year.

An NHL team paying a player for what he accomplished in a different league is the definition of asinine.

Where did you get the idea that we're paying him for his KHL production?

Sorry, I thought it was under 6.5 Either way a crappy contract is a crappy contract and I don't think Nylander is worth that much. Unless you factor in the other salaries on his team.

Then you have a terrible evaluation of the market. The best wingers in the game right now are making 10-11 million.

Kaprizov could've easily played hardball here. Is it the best contract in the league? Obviously not, but it is a fair deal.

Kyle Connor is making 7 million. This is right in the realm for what Kaprizov is at this point. A line driving wing.

Is this how Wild fans really feel? Ugh.

It's a good deal, considering how Minnesota couldn't go with a bridge deal. Some may say they bet on Kaprizov, but the guy has literally had better numbers than Panarin when coming over at the same age, and was just as good if not better in his rookie season (considering his linemates, of course someone is now going to complain about the divisions...).

Is it not normal to compare contracts?
Sure but you want to factor context too. The wild were in a tougher spot, and they still got him for less. People shit on the Marner deal still partly because how it was perceived at the time it was signed.

In any case, aside from comparing contracts I’d feel comfortable on Kaprizov being worth the money for years. He seems to be one of those special wingers capable of carrying a line rather than needing a center. Not just how good he was last season but who he was playing next to. Get the man a legit top line C and he’ll absolutely be worth that money, I think that skews it.

Whelp. He's basically the Wild's offence until all the dead cap is gone by the time his contract is done. I think anyone would more when you know the next 4 years your team is handicapped.
