Hunt is a better skater and all round more talented than Seeler, though Seeler is tougher. Soucy is a different thing altogether. Late bloomer, awkward looking, but actually had some talent. Injuries have hurt his career.

Has a bit of crazy to him, as well as some speed and some grit.
Czechs, in general, have a bit of crazy in them.lol

This isn't selling high for a 6th overall, which is why he's bringing back a late 1st and a 2nd.

It is though. Everyone is assuming he’s much better than he is. This is all paying for potential* because he certainly isn’t great now.

Ok cool, you get a late 1st in a really weak draft unless Minnesota collapses, a 2nd in 2 years, and a depth defenseman. Not even close to a haul.

It’s not a weak draft .. what r u talking about

I am really surprised that MN is playing him on the big team. Maybe it's to give Bogo some rest? he has been durable during his time in MN, but has had a lot of injuries elsewhere.

Probably just a sop to keep him happy, but if he shows decently, one of Merrill or Chisholm might be moved.
You move Merrill out every day of the week. And try to blackmail a GM to take Trenin as well.

How? The BJs had control of Jiricek for years to come. Either they made the evaluation that this is his peak value or like with Laine they panicked.

Waddell is showing to be spineless. On principle he shouldn't have moved Jiricek or Laine as fast as he did. In a market like Columbus you can't just cave to every player’s request to leave. The only advantage Columbus has with these players is time. You want to leave? You better play well and come with a good attitude so you will have value in a trade. If you’re Jiricek you want to ruin your reputation and be a cry baby? Good! Get a house in Cleveland until you're 26.

Burning Jiricek's value because someone else is playing well is just dumb. They are not competing for anything this year or next. They need more assets to be better not less.
Got to make room on the depth chart for better players. Provorov should be next.

Appreciate the concern, but we're fine. Many of us are happy with the new direction under Waddell. Finally feels like there is a plan and a steady hand in charge.
You add Brindley, Chinakhov & Jenner to the lineup and that’s a playoff caliber team in a weak East.

Would've been a fleece if it's Jiricek 2 years ago, the luster has faded after a pretty botched development. This is a pretty fair deal if you bet high on potential.

Is this a good return for a 6th OA pick? Nope, not even close.
The problem is, it was not a 6th OA pick.
Atm Hunt alone is better than Jiricek and CBJ got a handful of picks on top.
CBJ accepting a mediocre (for a #6 OA) return is a huge red flag.
Talking about mediocre…mediocre skating does not mean he is a decent skater. It means he is rather a bad skater. Another red flag.

In a few years we will know, if CBJ cut their losses or if Billy G made a nice deal between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Reactions: Minnesota
I find it extremely funny that the previous thread was all outside fans telling Columbus fans that the Jackets would be lucky to get a second for their distressed malcontent asset, and now that a trade has happened that includes a first, a second, third, a fourth, AND a 6/7 NHL-ready defenseman who's an upgrade over all three bottom-six LHD in Columbus right now and the new consensus is that Columbus got fleeced.
Weren’t there a lot of BJ’s fans asking for one of the top prospects on other teams? I think these types of threads go both ways depending on the fanbase where one side wants a complete overpayment and the other side wants a player for cents on the dollar. The reality is usually somewhere in the middle

Honestly always got Ristolainen vibes from him when I heard people discuss his value. He’s a big RHD recent high pick but really his trajectory has not been in line with his draft position. Maybe CBJ is smart for cutting ties as they’ve had more development time with him than anyone else. Maybe he has a bad attitude and never improved on keys areas they ask him to focus on(skating).

Just gonna go on record and say Jiricek is going to work out well for the Wild. Agility and Offensive Ability in a Big Man makes him a player. Lack of explosiveness in his stride will be developed, won’t hold him back, he can already move well enough and has the range to be effective.

That said, for a distressed asset with a disgruntled agent, the Jackets did well in the Return. Sometimes ya gotta cut bait and take what you can. And trust me the return could have been a lot worse in those situations.

I'm still having nightmares of Walsh when the Wild tried to negotiate with Gaborik and Dupuis in 2003-04.
Tbf, Gaborik was low-balled massively. Two consecutive 30-goal seasons in an expansion team as a 19 and 20-year-old in a low scoring era & playing under the most defensive coach in NHL history. 9 goals and 17 points in 18 playoffs games, scoring just one less point than Conn Smythy winner while Minnesota only made it to the Conference Finals.

But yeah, he was smart to finally fire that clown Walsh.

I could easily see the Flyers giving up Edmonton's and Colorado's 1sts this year for Jiricek. They're current picks 16 and 19, which beats the value CBJ just got, MIN pick is currently at 28
If Jiricek is indeed making a stink about playing time and that type of stuff, I think Briere would stay away after the whole Cutter Gauthier situation. I’m not sure I’d want to give up 2 1sts for him either as it seems his biggest flaw is an integral part of the game. I wouldn’t be surprised though if Briere is hoarding 1sts and 2nds for a young player player who shakes loose. He’s got the ammo

Kinda shocked to see how many people think B-grade prospect about to step into the NHL, 1st, 2nd and 4th are a bad return on Jiricek who, by all indications, has not been developing great.

Honestly, it's great timing for the Jackets to pull the trigger on this now when Jiricek clearly is not working out for them but hasn't lost value.

I think they're giving up much for a prospect that need to be fixed in serveral aspects of the game. And there are rumors out there about his attitude/personality - this would be a red flag for me. So it's a very risky move in my eyes.

Hunt, a first, a second + some late picks is a big package for another prospect with flaws like skating in todays NHL.

Is Columbus out of the playoff race? The Jiricek trade probably doesn't happen the same way if Waddell isn't gifted Fabbro.

With the Johnny G tragedy looming over their season, you wonder if this isn't a team that could make the playoffs as an underdog.

Hunt seems like he will be a good fit in helping the development of Mateychuk.
